Position Global Security & Logistics Coordinator
Location Global, based in London or Washington, DC
About RI: Relief International (RI), an international relief and development agency with
cross-sectoral programs bridging relief and development, currently seeks a Global Security
& Logistics Coordinator.
Position Summary: The Global Security & Logistics Coordinator (GSC) is a key leadership
role within RI worldwide. The GSC is responsible for implementation and maintenance of
security and safety procedures in all current RI countries of operation as well as in new
programs.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Ensure the continuous development, upgrade and enforcement of security and
safety systems and policies across the organization to minimize risk to staff.
• Regularly and proactively and monitor and assess changing security threats and be
fully current on regional and country political issues and developments that impact
security; Map security incidents to analyze patterns and threats.
• Anticipate and develop effective security plans both in general and with
response to specific threats identified from monitoring.
• Provide security alerts, briefings and updates to various levels of the
organization and educate and train colleagues on the security plans and
ensure compliance.
• Lead effective response to security incidents including scenarios (e.g.,
kidnapping, accidents, evacuations, etc.).
• Conduct occasional and rotating monitoring and capacity building field visits
to RI’s overseas operational countries, with emphasis on high risk countries,
to assess, update and improve security procedures and systems.
• Develop and maintain liaison with counterpart and interagency focal points where
appropriate.
• Proactively upgrade and apply situation appropriate policies and guidance per RI’s
internal Field Security Standards, MOSS, UNSECOORD, etc.; Develop country and
situation specific, coordinated evacuation plans; Review and revise security policies
and procedures with country & regional security officers to ensure understanding,
buy-in, and compliance by staff; Routinely upgrade safety and security plans.
• Provides staff training on safety and security in a proactive and positive manner that
promotes inclusion, participation, and leadership among the RI country teams,
including expatriates, local national staff, with due regard for equity and inclusion
based on gender and other representations. Be knowledgeable and sensitive to
training needs and issues that must be understood to promote a positive
organizational profile, cultural respect, abiding by RI’s Code of Conduct.
• Ensure the maintenance and efficiency of all necessary and country specific
internal/external communication systems: e-mail, telecom, VHF and HF radio;
Oversee all security related vendor contracting and mechanisms.
• Assist RI’s Rapid Emergency Deployment (RED) Team strategic planning and in the
event of a disaster or emergency, provide input in field programs as necessary on
security and safety.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
• Relevant graduate degree.
• At least 5 years of international experience working in conflict affected, high risk or
complex settings of which a minimum of 3 years must be in the field of security,
including at least 2 years with international NGOs.
• Demonstrated knowledge and implementation experience of UN, ECHO, MOSS and
other standard INGO security frameworks.
• Solid commitment to helping people in the most difficult circumstances.
• Excellent references reflecting demonstrated teamwork, maturity of judgment,
tolerance for hardship and stress, leadership and integrity of character.
• Fluency in English – written and verbal. Fluency in a second language
preferred (such as French, Arabic, Russian, Dari, Pashto, etc.).
• Ability to show initiative, multi-task and provide a consistently high output.
• Management and leadership skills as well as being able to work
collaboratively as a member of a multi-cultural and geographically diverse
team.
• Willingness and ability to travel to conflict zones and disaster areas with
little notice.
• Proficiency with Microsoft applications.
Salary Range: $50K-$75K, commensurate with experience and qualifications
