Grant: Support for the Improvement of Health and Well-being of Asylum Seekers and Refugees

Job Description

OVERVIEW

Given the growing impact of Coronavirus and our concern that young asylum seekers and refugees will be one of the groups most impacted, we have launched an Emergency Relief Fund to help support in the immediate health and well-being of the most at-risk and socially isolated young people.

The Emergency Relief Fund will support young refugees or asylum seekers aged 16 to 30 who are assessed as vulnerable, to help in the relief of destitution and poverty in general.

Our funds are limited, and priority will be given to young people receiving support from Hope for the Young who meet the Emergency Relief Fund criteria, in the first instance. However, the fund is open to external applications.

ELIGIBILITY

Young asylum seekers or refugees aged 16-30 years old based in the UK, who are vulnerable and in need of immediate financial support to help in the relief of social isolation and financial hardship during the Coronaviris pandemic.

Please note our funds are very limited however, we are committed to supporting young people for up to 12 weeks during the COVID-19 crisis with a maximum grant of £250.

Grant payments will be allocated on a case by case basis in order to respond effectively to young people’s needs. For example, this could be regular weekly or monthly payments for food or mobile phone top ups, or a one-off payment to buy a mobile device to help young people stay connected.

Here are some examples of things you can apply for:

  • Food
  • Medication
  • Toiletries
  • Mobile credit and data packages
  • Basic smart phone
  • Essential utilities

Please note, we can NOT currently pay for:

  • Laptops
  • Ongoing contracts with energy suppliers, mobile telephone companies or internet providers
  • White goods such as fridges, dishwashers, or washing machines
  • Families who are applying on behalf of their children who are under 16 years old
  • Applications for groups of young people
HOW TO APPLY

Once the file is downloaded to your computer, complete the form, save it, and send it back as an attachment to pamela@hopefortheyoung.org.uk .

Once we have received the application, we will be in contact to discuss the application further. We may ask for proof of the young person’s immigration status e.g. Home Office document or a letter from their solicitor.

Due to the increasing number of applications, it may take up to TWO weeks for us to review and respond to your application.
