Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY The Grants Finance Officer will lead on US Government and US private foundation grant compliance, management, accounting and financial reporting for AKF USA and AKF field offices in Africa and Asia. The position will be housed in the Finance department and work closely with the Programs Department.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop proposal budgets and co-lead budget realignment processes and project start-up and close-down as necessary in close coordination with AKF USA Program Team and associated field units

Perform all functions necessary to support grant and contract awards and administration such as quarterly donor reporting, drawdown, wire transfers, tracking cash flow and balances of donor agency funds

Performing accounting functions of recording entries and reconciliations.

Preparing wire transfers, drawdown funds, and report grants spending to the management.

Ensure compliance with all USG and other donor reporting requirements;

Work with programs team to align budget notes with existing grant terms and conditions;

Provide training and guidance to AKF USA and AKF field offices on compliance issues and respond to compliance-related inquiries (as required);

Coordinate A-133 audit for AKF field offices responsible for federal grants;

Conduct field visits and program audits; prepare reports, including possible corrective actions and follow-up on all recommendations;

Spend up to 10% of time on international travel;

Any other assignment by Associate Director, Finance (or their designate).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree or commensurate 5-7 years working experience. Applicants should possess sound technical expertise in USG rules and regulations and reporting requirements. An advanced understanding of Accounting Principles, Microsoft Excel is required to execute the position’s functions. Applicants should have strong leadership, communication and organization skills, and have a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and culturally diverse environment. Excellent writing, editing and oral presentation skills are also essential.

  • Requirements

Experience with non-profit grant compliance audits, as well as expertise with other donors’ compliance requirements are considered a plus.
