Organization Overview
The Shot@Life Campaign is an initiative of the United Nations Foundation that promotes the message that vaccines are the most cost-effective intervention for saving and improving the lives of children in the developing world and will highlight the important leadership of the UN in vaccines. There will be three distinct, but interrelated, components: an intensive effort to raise awareness and mobilize resources from Americans in support of childhood immunizations in the developing world; high-level partnerships with other US-based organizations to reach a large number of Americans with the childhood immunization message; and an intensive advocacy effort aimed at Washington policymakers and American media.
Position Overview
The Grassroots Associate, Shot@Life is responsible for coordinating grassroots engagement for the Shot@Life Campaign, including coordinating relationships with individual supporters, and local chapters of national partner organizations and school/school-based organizations (in coordination with the Partnership Associate and under the direction of the Deputy Director). The Associate will communicate regularly with campaign fundraisers, and grassroots supporters, and is vital to the success of Shot@Life Campaign as the “front-line” of grassroots engagement. Shot@Life has 675 volunteer supporters in 50 states.
Working Relationships
The Grassroots Associate, Shot@Life is a member of the UNF team and works closely with other UNF departments and programs such as Public Affairs and Global Health. The Associate reports to the Grassroots Officer, Shot@Life and works with the Deputy Director and Senior Director of the Campaign to train and teach volunteers.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Present the Shot@Life Campaign at grassroots meetings, events and conferences, integrate Shot@life grassroots activations into existing events and activities, and co-develop new events and activities.
- Coordinate activations for target audiences including existing Champions and schools/universities. Work with partnership staff to incorporate grassroots into partnerships.
- Coordinate Shot@Life grassroots events and activities. Plan and implement annual Champion Summit in collaboration with Shot@Life team.
- Develop email updates and newsletters for Shot@Life Campaign supporters/Champions to encourage action and motivate partners and grassroots constituents to engage further.
- Field phone calls and email questions regarding Shot@Life Campaign. Cultivate relationships with Champions to foster engagement.
- Manage CRM for Champion program.
- Assist development of grassroots business plan metrics to reflect UNF constituent curve and ensure campaign meets those grassroots metrics.
- Provide regular web input to the Shot@Life Campaign website and support the communications and web team in writing blogs, and posting photos/stories and supporter profiles.
- Provide regular updates and reporting on the progress of Shot@Life grassroots to both internal and external audiences.
- Coordinate in-district grassroots and grasstops advocacy events w/ BWC and Shot@Life Advocacy Managers. Mobilize supporters to engage in grassroots advocacy. Work with team members to leverage grassroots and grasstops supporters’ voices with Congress and the Administration.
- Work with the grassroots officer in the development, implementation, and growth of the Shot@Life Campaign plan for Champions, including Champion leader and specialist program.
- Coordinate knowledge management among Champions and manage Champion resource portal.
- Enhance grassroots program through innovative solutions and peer learning.
- Collaborate with team to holistically recruit new Champions with a focus on diversity (i.e. partners, advocacy targets, and influencers).
- Other duties as assigned.
Selection Criteria
- Bachelor’s Degree and 2-3 years of professional experience.
- Experience in event planning and management skills, including running logistics and on-the-ground execution.
- Experience engaging diverse grassroots constituencies, such as university students, civil society groups, or faith-based communities; and the private sector.
- Strong writing skills, particularly in developing reports and updates for both internal and external audiences, as well as communications, talking points, etc. to partners and supporters.
- Ability to synthesize information and communicate it to different audiences with different levels of content.
- Strong skills working in teams and across many types of organizations – collaborator; problem solver; relationship-builder; and strong inter-personal skills.
- Ability to develop, maintain and enjoy effective working relationships with people from a variety of organizations and with a wide variety of functional expertise.
- Willingness to travel (40%).
- Self-starter with both energy and creativity.
- Strong customer service skills, in person, over the phone and in writing.
- Sense of humor, highly organized, and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
- Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
