IRIS+ is the generally accepted system for measuring, managing, and optimizing impact within the impact investing space. The GIIN offers the IRIS+ system to support the practice of impact investing and promote transparency, credibility, and accountability in the use of impact data for decision making across the impact investment industry.

The Manager, IRIS+ Impact Frameworks Development will lead the development of impact measurement and management guidance and metrics for IRIS+ on themes including climate adaptation and resilience, DEI, oceans, waste management, housing, and others. This work will include extensive engagement with investors, companies, researchers, consultants, and others to test, learn, and build guidance, evidence maps, and core metrics sets, advancing the GIIN’s broader mission.

Responsibilities for this role include:

Leading the development of new thematic content for IRIS+, including:

  • Developing and managing relationships with expert research organizations

  • Bringing together and managing engaging working groups that include institutional investors, foundations, fund managers, corporates, small and medium businesses, researchers, evaluators, service providers, and others

    • Guiding the development of Core Metrics Sets, including aligning metrics from existing, external frameworks
    • Proactively seeking, facilitating, synthesizing, and acting on feedback from many different perspectives and actors
    • Presenting to stakeholder groups both in person and virtually
    • Managing dynamic and interdependent workstreams (via Asana)
    • Tracking and updating working group information and engagement in Salesforce and in other formats as needed
    • Collaborating with internal research teams to test Core Metrics for comparability in impact performance benchmarks
  • Supporting development of technical documentation for IRIS+, including on specific topics (like racial equity or sustainable agriculture) and on broader structural elements of the system (IRIS+ Framework Builder and the IRIS Catalog of Metrics)

  • Collaborating across internal teams focused on research, grant management, operations, membership services, and communications to develop and drive toward GIIN strategic initiativesearch, grant management, operations, membership services, and communications to develop and drive toward GIIN strategic initiatives

Location: This position will be based in our New York City office with significant remote work flexibility offered through the GIIN’s hybrid in-person/remote work model.

Compensation: Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience. Salary range: $62,000-$72,000.


Qualifications

Necessary skills and qualifications for this role include:

  • Relationship-building skills: Proactively connects with individuals and builds relationships both inside the GIIN and outside of the GIIN among a wide range of actors in the industry. Adjusts approach to bring in individuals from varied backgrounds and perspectives, including and especially working thoughtfully with individuals from marginalized groups. Presents synthesized information confidently, responds to questions, and facilitates conversations within groups virtually and in person.
  • Project management skills: Stays on top of multiple projects, plans backwards, anticipates obstacles, identifies and involves stakeholders appropriately, asks for help when needed, and uses resources wisely. Record of finding creative, goal-oriented ways forward rather than getting stuck in a process, and of persevering despite obstacles.
  • Data-oriented problem-solving skills: Understands how clear definitions and measures drive good data, can explain the logical flow of how qualitative and quantitative data are collected and analyzed. Ability to read metrics/definitions for detail (and propose edits when needed).
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion (especially racial equity): recognizes role of race, gender, and other identities in shaping disparities, is driven to improve conditions, and proactively learns and reflects on topics related to race, equity, and identity.
