Purpose of consultancy
To provide technical expertise to the Classifications and Terminologies (CAT) Unit within the Department of Data and Analytics (DNA) in the following areas:
Background
The CAT Unit has the responsibility for the development, maintenance, and implementation of WHO health-related classifications which include the International Classifications of Diseases (ICD), the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and the International Classification of Health Interventions (ICHI) as well as related terminologies and data standards.
As part of the 11th revision of ICD-11, the CAT Unit coordinated the development of a supplementary Chapter on TM conditions. The inclusion of the TM Chapter in ICD-11 is facilitating standardized recording and reporting of TM diagnosis, which in turn will allow generating international comparable data on TM encountered in terms of form, frequency, effectiveness, safety, quality, outcome and cost. The First Module of the TM Chapter of ICD- 11 classifies traditional medicine conditions that originated in ancient China and are now commonly used in China, Japan, Republic of Korea and other countries around the world.
In response to the Member State requests and following that assessment of key requirements and uses cases for starting a process of international standardization, the CAT Unit has embarked on a four-year process to develop the Second Module of the TM Chapter of ICD- 11. The development of the ICD-11 TM Chapter Module 2 will focus on creating a union set of diagnostic categories derived from Ayurveda and related TM diagnostic systems (i.e. Unani, Siddha).
