AGRA aims to catalyze an inclusive agricultural transformation needed to accelerate the achievement of the Malabo Declaration commitments and related indicators from the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP),the Sustainable Development Goals, and Africa’s Agenda 2063.For more information about AGRA, please visit www.agra.org.
AGRA is a non-profit organization that works with African governments, donors, NGOs, the private sector, and farmers to improve the productivity and incomes of resource-poor smallholder farmers in Africa. AGRA aims to catalyze inclusive agricultural transformation by increasing incomes and improving food security for millions of smallholder farmers in Africa.
AGRA’s Strategic Plan (2023-2028) aims to catalyze sustainable food systems in Africa by influencing and leveraging partnerships to create a strong enabling environment where the private sector thrives and smallholder farmers are able to produce healthy and sufficient food. This strategy will be implemented through targeted interventions in agricultural input supply, extension services and commodity marketing systems.
The Youth Entrepreneurship for the Future of Food and Agriculture (YEFFA) program aims to reach 10 million young people across the continent and create more than 3 million jobs, 50% of which are dignified and fulfilling. In Burkina Faso, the programme is being implemented in the Hauts Bassins, Cascades, Boucle du Mouhoun, Centre-Ouest and Sud-Ouest regions. The programme aims to reach 500,000 young people and create 142,000 decent jobs.
In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the transformative potential of entrepreneurship in economic growth and development across Africa. Women entrepreneurs, especially young women, hold great promise for revitalizing sectors such as agriculture, which is crucial to the continent’s economy. However, despite the growing interest in agribusiness and the vital role women play, there remains a critical gap in addressing the specific needs and challenges faced by women agripreneurs. This demographic often faces systemic barriers that hinder their ability to thrive, including limited access to essential resources, inadequate support structures, and broader socioeconomic constraints.
The agricultural value chain in Burkina Faso is a critical component of the country’s economy, involving various stages from production to market. Limited infrastructure can hinder market access and increase costs. Adverse weather conditions and soil degradation pose significant challenges to agricultural productivity therefore for sales and market development components. Identifying gaps facing by youth lead MSMEs on the matter and providing meaningful support will be the assessment of this BDS consutancy.
