Oriole Global Health Ltd (OGH) is seeking to appoint an infectious diseases specialist with expertise in Neglected Tropical Diseases and infection/disease geospatial mapping methodologies. The successful candidate will join OGH as part of a consortium led by Crown Agents to Accelerate the Sustainable Control and Elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (ASCEND Lot.1). This is part of a new programme funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) to achieve progress towards global targets for the control and elimination of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).
ASCEND Lot 1, is focused on East Africa and Asia, and will support the control and elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in 12 countries. The focus will be on Five NTDs: lymphatic filariasis; onchocerciasis; schistosomiasis; visceral leishmaniasis and trachoma. NTDs are a group of diseases that thrive in poor, often conflict-affected settings, affecting 1.6 billion of the world’s poorest people, causing disability, disfigurement, stigma and an estimated 170,000 deaths annually. They result in those affected being unable to work, pushing families further into poverty, and in children being unable to attend school and reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
The post holder will be responsible for the supervision of data collection and presentation of NTD prevalences and intensities and control effort impact (from measures such as mass drug delivery and WaSH programmes) in the target counties, analysis and interpretation of epidemiological data on the prevalence and intensity of infection (in London), the production of maps of both epidemiological and control impact data (e.g. MDA and WaSH) for each target country in the Ascend East project. An important aspect of the project will be the dissemination of the results to global stakeholders, via working closely with WHO, DFID and agencies running NTD control programmes in East Africa, India, Bangladeshand Nepal, to inform public health decision making.
The post holder will join a team of epidemiologists and tropical medicine experts working for Oriole Global Health Ltd. The work will be supervised by Professor Sir Roy Anderson who is an international authority on infectious disease epidemiology and control.
Key qualifications:
The salary range for this post is £60,000 - £87,000 per annum dependent on experience and qualifications.
Please note that this position is on a full-time fixed-term contract for the 2-year duration of the project
