Description of duties Under the administrative supervision of the Sub-Regional Administrative Officer and WHO Representative (WR) and the technical supervision of the Information Technology Officer, WPRO, the incumbent will carry out the following tasks:
1. Provide technical support on the administration and operation of the country office Local Area Network, Wide Area Network and communications including hardware/software requirements, network protocols, information security measures and assist in system integration through multiple LAN servers and protocols. Implement and maintain backup of servers to ensure that they meet the minimum requirements in accordance with the backup policy for country offices. 2. Coordinate with the Information Technology unit at the Regional Office the installation, set-up, implementation of and training for computer applications to facilitate workflow and implementation of technical programmes, including standard office applications, e-mail services and Regional applications (e.g. Plan of Action, Global Management System (GSM) and Imprest Account system) and other country office applications running on the country office LAN. 3. Install, set up and assist in the configuration of new hardware and software in the country office and WHO-supported projects in the country and certify compliance thereof with the standards and specifications set by the Regional Office. 4. Provide information technology training services leading to better use of IT resources by WHO staff through assessment of needs. 5. In collaboration with technical and administrative officers, implement computer applications to facilitate workflow and implementation of technical programmes. 6. Conduct assessment and evaluation of ICT needs in support of the WR Office and national health programmes, and communicate results to the Regional Office for coordination and approval of action. 7. Prepare and verify receiving reports of newly received data processing equipment for the WR Office and other WHO-supported projects and despatch them to the Regional Office. 8. Perform any other ICT-related tasks assigned by the WR or the Regional Office Information Technology unit.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Education Completion of secondary education with formal training in area of informatics and telecommunications including Microsoft Windows operating system family and Microsoft Office Suite.
Functional Skills and Knowledge: - Good knowledge of microcomputer operations; - Working knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and Windows-based networking environment and - Windows based Back Office server and desktop applications; - Knowledge of basic telecommunications technologies and Internet based protocols.
Experience Six years’ experience in computer operation/application, hardware maintenance/trouble-shooting and software support.
Other - Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds and maintain a high standard of personal conduct; - Good knowledge of written and spoken English and the local language.
