Job Description

IREX is recruiting an intern for its Information Integrity and Resilience portfolio. This is a great opportunity to learn about IREX’s pioneering Learn to Discern (L2D) approach to building digital resilience as well as gain practical experience in fundraising, knowledge management, organizational learning, and research. The intern will learn about the larger field of digital resilience, connect with country staff implementing the L2D approach, and gain an understanding of how an approach can be adapted to different contexts.

IREX is seeking an intern available to work 15-30 hours per week, though the schedule is flexible. This internship is open immediately and will last for six months.

Your Background & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, education, media and journalism, or another related field preferred but not required.
  • Interest in international development, particularly in digital citizenship and digital media literacy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated strong writing and editing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple competing tasks and collaborate across a team while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Speaking, reading, and writing fluency in English.
  • Very strong time management, multitasking, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across borders and cultures.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with the ability to multi-task and work independently.
  • You must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

Your Daily Tasks

  • Conduct research on a range of digital resilience and media literacy topics, including the latest technology trends.
  • Liaise with country office staff to gather and analyze local resources and learning.
  • Support new staff onboardings, and community building with HQ and country office staff.
  • Assist with knowledge management and facilitate learning events.
  • Draft communications products for external audiences such as fact sheets and success stories.
  • Support internal communications and information sharing by helping prepare brief presentations and accouchements of new products, tools, and resources.
  • Assist with administrative and operational tasks.
  • Support fundraising efforts by editing concepts and proposals and researching potential donors.
  • Support travel and event logistics.
  • If needed and with guidance from manager, provide support for payment requests to support fellows and/or program partners.
  • Provide support to procurement, subaward management, budget processes, and payments when needed.
  • Support maintenance of and staff use of IIR information management system.
  • Participate in team and departmental meetings.
  • Clearly communicate progress and challenges verbally and in writing to manager and team.
  • Ask for help and support when needed from the manager and other team members.
  • Provide input and contribute perspective to team decision-making when appropriate.
  • Other support duties as needed.
