Job Description

The Mines Advisory Group (MAG) finds and destroys landmines and unexploded bombs to help some of the world’s most vulnerable people stay safe and rebuild their lives after war. They are seeking a values-led, resilient, and experienced Director of Finance for a 14 Month Fixed Term Maternity Contract. The starting salary is normally point 1 of the scale advertised, however for an exceptional candidate we will consider appointment at a higher point in the scale, or a competitive market allowance, in recognition of the interim nature of this role.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director of Finance, as a key member of MAG’s Leadership Team, will provide strategic leadership and oversight to the organisation to ensure a strong, sustainable future.

Key accountabilities:

  • Leadership: Lead the global finance function. Deputising for the Chief Executive as required
  • Strategy: Develop, lead and direct MAG’s global financial strategy. Managing and enabling the delivery of MAG’s programmes, including new projects
  • Financial Management: Ensure effective business models, financial management and reporting
  • Planning: Implement strong processes for business planning and budgeting
  • Regulatory: Ensure all activities are carried out in line with all relevant statutory, regulatory, and contractual requirements in all countries where MAG operates
  • Risk Management: Identify risks and opportunities
  • Partnering: Develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. Oversee MAG’s corporate relationship with financial institutions
  • Change management: Facilitate and sustain growth

THE PERSON

  • Commercially astute qualified accountant (ACA/ACMA/ACCA) ideally with experience of working internationally as well as a demonstrable understanding of the regulatory landscape in which MAG operates
  • Strong commercial acumen, analytical, performance driven, and solutions focused
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, able to challenge and influence in a supportive style with vision and integrity
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships across a diverse and international stakeholder map, with effective people skills and gravitas to support effective delivery
  • Candidates from a contract-based industry or other regulated sectors alongside those experienced in the not-for-profit sector are encouraged to apply
