CONTRACTUAL INFORMATION

JOB TITLE: Intern (Digital Communications)

UNIT: Communications

DUTY STATION: Addis Ababa

DURATION: 8 Months

Open to Ethiopian National

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND JOB PURPOSE

Under the direction of the communications officer and digital communications and advocacy officer, the intern will assist WFP Ethiopia in developing a set of clear, high quality, innovative and visually appealing multi-media materials and packages, targeting WFP’s key audiences, including donors, partners, government and beneficiaries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):

  • Support the development of communication materials, including social media posts, stories, and visuals.
  • Assist in collecting field content—photos, quotes, stories, and testimonials—for communication and reporting purposes.
  • Help draft content for WFP Ethiopia digital platforms under supervision.
  • Assist in maintaining consistency in branding and messaging across products.
  • Assist in coordinating with vendors, designers, and printers where needed.
  • Provide digital communications administrative support such as scheduling posts, uploading to WFP’s multimedia hub, social media monitoring and follow-ups.
  • Carry out any other communication‑related support requested by the supervisor.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ELIGIBILITY:

Eligibility:

To be considered for an internship with WFP, applicants must meet one of the following requirements listed below:

  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme (for example, bachelor’s degree) from a recognised university and have completed at least two years of the programme. Candidates should have attended classes in the past 12 months; (graduated in communications, journalism or other relevant fields)
  • Be currently enrolled in a graduate programme (for example, master’s degree) from a recognised university and have attended classes in the past 12 months in communications, journalism or other relevant fields)
  • Be a recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognised university and have attended classes in the last 12 months of enrolment in the university. ((graduated in communications, journalism or other relevant fields)
  • Fluency in oral and written communication in English and Amharic.
  • Be fit to travel to, and work at, the duty station of the internship.
  • Not be sons, daughters, brothers or sisters of WFP employees.
  • The Programme will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.

Competencies:

  • Proficiency in using Premiere Pro, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After effect, Lightroom, Canva, MS Office and other publishing software on Mac and Windows hardware.
  • Has knowledge of digital communications and a high standard portfolio, showing creative solutions and attention to detail.
  • Has demonstrated a sound understanding of WFP communication techniques and activities and awareness of the socio-political context in which WFP operates through day-to-day work.
  • Ability to work with a high level of independence, as art of a large, dynamic and diverse team, and to establish effective working relationships with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Language:

Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Amharic.
