Duties and Responsibilities
The internship positions are located in the General Assembly and ECOSOC Affairs Division (GAEAD) of the United Nations Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) in New York. GAEAD provides procedural and technical support to the General Assembly Plenary, four of its Main Committees (I-IV), and a number of its subsidiary bodies, dealing with the full spectrum of issues considered in and by the Assembly. GAEAD also services the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), as well as a number of its subsidiary bodies.
Interns’ responsibilities will depend upon the nature of the project(s) undertaken, and the background of the interns.
Daily responsibilities might include, but are not necessarily limited to:
• Assisting in the preparation of procedural notes for intergovernmental meetings, and other preparatory tasks.
• Attending and summarizing intergovernmental meetings.
• Assisting with logistics during meetings, including interactive presentations, virtual connections and assisting with the list of speakers.
• Undertaking historical research and examination of procedural precedents.
• Undertaking media-based analysis and research.
• Compiling statistics, as well as design and tabulation of charts, tables, and graphs.
• Maintaining databases of meetings based on requests and actual conduct of meetings and assisting with the collection and analysis of data.
• Contributing to the drafting/preparation of notes, talking points, and other papers and briefing materials.
• Updating/redesigning websites and links.
• Performing other tasks as necessary.
Interns work directly with and for the member(s) of the Division to which they are assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Please explain how you meet this criterion using examples.
Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.
