Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Deputy Executive Secretary, and in coordination with other staff of OES, including SDU, IU, CDC, the intern will contribute to the activities of the OES in the following areas:

1. Support the OES on Monitoring and Developing Strategic Partnerships
  • Support the update of a short version of the partnership report for UNECE.
  • Research on key partners and donors of UNECE, including updates on policy priorities, recent funded initiatives, etc.
  • Preparation of draft concept notes, in collaboration with PMU and UNECE substantive Divisions.
  • Preparation and distribution of the weekly electronic newsletter to UNECE’s partners in English (using Mailchimp).
2. Support the OES on Communications and Media
  • Daily media monitoring and dissemination of news about UNECE (all languages, all online media, using Meltwater, Factiva, and web searches), disseminated daily to all staff.
  • Preparation of monthly and ad-hoc reports on press coverage about UNECE, distributed to management.
  • Support content management of the UNECE social media accounts.
  • Provide photo coverage of meetings and events.
  • Translate press releases and news articles.
Qualifications / Special Skills

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • (a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • (b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • (c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.

Languages
  • Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
  • Fluency in another official UN language is desirable, preferably French or Russian.
