Duties and Responsibilities

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region’s economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise, and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. The internship in the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office, Latin America, Guyana, will last 2 to 6 months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an “as-needed” basis. Under the supervision or overall guidance of the Head of Office of the Resident Coordinator’s Office, Yuqiong Zhou.

The intern will:

• Support the preparation of slide decks/PowerPoints, background and option papers for meetings
• Assist in the preparation of speeches and talking points for senior officials
• Assist in the development of corporate visualization products derived from multiple data sources using state-of the-art tools to enable insight and decision-making at various levels
• Perform ad-hoc analysis and present results in a clear manner
• Work with MS Excel, Power BI, Tableau, ThinkCell, or other similar self-service analytics toolsets
• Support the analytics teams in maintaining key data sets, data models, indices and reports
• Support the preparation of consultations, events, talks and visits, including the logistic arrangement aspects.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants to the United Nations internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

• (a) Be enrolled or recently graduated from a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in public policy, information management, data science, international relations, or a similar/related field of study;
• (b) Be enrolled in the final academic year or graduated from a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); Applicants must demonstrate their intention to study further or to work in a field relevant to this internship description.

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
