Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Resident Coordinator (RC) system, part of the UN Secretariat since January 2019, brings together all UN development organizations to provide coherent, effective and efficient support at the country level. The RC is the highest ranking official of the UN Development System in each country and the designated representative of–and reports directly to–the UN Secretary General. As such, the RC leads the UN Country Team and coordinates UN support to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda through shared standards, capacities and collaboration across UN entities. The RC system strengthens unified UN action to advance nationally, regionally and globally towards development goals.
The internship to support monitoring and reporting will last 6 months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an “as-needed” basis. Under the supervision or overall guidance of the Data, monitoring and reporting officer.

For this internship, studies in the fields of social sciences, international development, public policy, economics, statistics, data science, or other related areas are desirable.
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master[1]s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor[1]s, Master[1]s or Ph.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage.
Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Excel, MS Teams. Is required.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in Spanish is required.
Knowledge in spoken and written English is desirable for the internship. Knowledge of another UN official language would be an asset.
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations.
NOTE: “Fluency” equals a rating of “fluent” in all areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and knowledge of equals a rating of “confident” in two of the four areas.
