Background:

The work of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek (POiB) focuses on a range of security issues: from countering terrorism, border security and transnational threats such as human trafficking, to developing the country’s regions, strengthening efforts to combat corruption on all levels, as well as supporting the reform of the justice sector, implementation of election reform, gender equality and building open and resilient societies.

The Human Dimension Department (HDD) of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek (POiB) supports the host government in strengthening democratic institutions, holding democratic elections, ensuring the rule of law and respect for human rights, combating trafficking in human beings, and promoting tolerance and non-discrimination.

The HDD is looking for an international intern. The successful candidate will undertake an unpaid internship for a duration of six months, subject to satisfactory performance by the incumbent.

The selected intern will have the opportunity to gain an overview/familiarize themself with the HDD activity at the OSCE, with special focus on elections, countering trafficking in human beings, rule of law, and fundamental freedoms.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Under the overall supervision of the Head of HDD, the Human Dimension Officer, the M&E Assistant, and the Administrative Assistant, the intern will be requested to carry out the following duties:

• General administration;
• Event and visitor planning and organization;
• Reporting (internal and external).
• General assistance as needed by national staff to four project areas of HDD: elections, countering trafficking in human beings, rule of law, and fundamental freedoms

Necessary Qualifications:

• Be between 19 and 30 years old and have completed two years of full-time studies from an accredited institution, or have completed a first or advanced degree in a field relevant to the OSCE’s mandate, no longer than two years ago by the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice (candidates who have already served six months of internship in the OSCE, irrespective of the duty station, are not eligible to apply);
• Studies in an academic field related to the OSCE portfolio;
• Fluency in English with excellent communication skills;
• Fluency in the Russian/Kyrgyz language would be an asset;
• Strong interest and (academic) experience in human rights, sociology, politics, and diplomacy;
• International experience and interest in cross-national / cross-cultural exchange (international work or volunteer experience);
• Interest in and experience with human rights, humanitarian work, and advocacy;
• Excellent IT knowledge, familiarity with Microsoft Office and Internet applications;
• Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities;
• Ability and willingness to work as a member of a team, with people of different cultural and religious backgrounds, different genders, and diverse political views, while maintaining impartiality and objectivity.

Remuneration Package:

The OSCE is not in a position to pay any remuneration or cover any expenses incurred by the intern during his/her stay nor reimburse travel expenses.

The selected intern may participate in the group health insurance scheme at his/her own expense, but the OSCE will cover life and accident/disability insurance. If the intern opts to arrange his/her own medical coverage, he/she shall provide evidence of medical coverage for the duty station he/she applies to, and for any eventual duty trip destinations.

The internship does not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE.
