Join a fast-growing non-profit organization in the Bay Area dedicated to increasing girls’ access to education in Africa.

The Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) USA is seeking an intern to help further our mission to educate girls and empower young women in sub-Saharan Africa. Headquartered in the UK and with offices in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana and Tanzania, CAMFED USA opened its first office, based in San Francisco, in June 2006. The CAMFED team is looking for enthusiastic and qualified individuals to support our work to raise the profile of girls’ education to a US audience and secure funds for CAMFED’s programs in Africa.

Overview of position: External communications and donor relations are critical to supporting CAMFED’s mission. Working alongside the Director of CAMFED USA, the intern will be responsible for processing donations and liaising with donors, drafting correspondence and materials about CAMFED’s work for external audiences, general administrative work and supporting the Director as necessary.

Specific duties include:

- General administrative duties, including office management and filing, processing donations and drafting correspondence - Researching individual donors and foundations - Assisting in the creation of organizational and campaign materials - Researching publications and forums relevant to CAMFED’s work - Additional development and communication duties as necessary

Qualifications:

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Organized, with a keen attention to detail - Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Outlook - Excellent interpersonal skills, including on the phone - Highly motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of the team

Schedule: Hours are negotiable – CAMFED is looking for someone who can contribute between 15 and 35 hours per week, for 8 weeks initially, with the possibility of a longer-term position.

Compensation: Unpaid, but with a monthly stipend available to cover local travel expenses.

Start Date: As soon as possible. Position open until filled.
