Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is accelerating the global transition to energy-efficient and climate-friendly cooling. Getting the right solutions in place for sustainable cooling is essential for improving the quality of life and health of people without undue impacts on the planet.
The Cool Coalition is a global multi-stakeholder network that connects a wide range of key actors from government, cities, international organizations, businesses, finance, academia, and civil society groups to facilitate knowledge exchange, advocacy, and joint action towards a rapid global transition to efficient and climate-friendly cooling. The Secretariat of the Cool Coalition is hosted at UNEP.
Cool Coalition members have identified the need for a global status check and an overview of implemented country actions as well as an evaluation of new opportunities and how far the world is from being on track to a net zero cooling pathway. At COP28, UNEP Cool Coalition published a Global Cooling Watch report and supported UAE presidency to attract more than 70 country commitments to a Global Cooling Pledge. Since 2024, UNEP Cool Coalition, as well as its ongoing activities, are dedicated to global implementation of this pledge and continuing the data analysis and tracking started under the Global Cooling Watch.
