Heart to Heart International is currently seeking a detail-oriented individual to join our disaster response team as an intern focusing on team readiness. This individual will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience contributing to the operations and logistics necessary to deploy emergency medical teams after a disaster. Our goal for this internship is to develop a clear process of documentation and management of our equipment for rapid deployment. Supporting our efforts in inventory management and development of quick operation guides and procedures, the intern will help ensure that our disaster response team can deploy critical infrastructure and teams worldwide.
Internship Details
- This is a paid internship (temporary non-exempt position)
- Exact schedule including internship dates and hours per week in-office and working from home to be determined upon hiring
- 20 hours per week for approximately 10 weeks
- 1-2 days per week in person at our headquarters in Lenexa for 4 hours minimum each day; remaining hours can be done virtually
- Approximate dates for summer internship: early June to early August
Responsibilities
- Identify next steps and a continuity plan to maintain readiness to deploy.
- Develop training guides for the DRT training portfolio
- Standardize disaster response SOPs, review for errors, and identify cross-dependencies
- Copy editing and formatting SOPs and supporting documents.
- Conduct inventory review and assist with disaster response equipment organization
- Develop Team Lead binder and HQ Lead binder.
- Assist with organization of digital files in Microsoft products including Teams and SharePoint
- Additional tasks/projects as needed.
- Check in weekly to the intern’s supervisor and monthly to the Volunteer Department.
- Create a final presentation/document to be delivered at the end of the internship.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated interest in humanitarian relief efforts, disaster response, or international development and must possess a strong knowledge of emergency and disaster management concepts and systems.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated record of being a self-starter with decision-making capacity, resourcefulness, detail-orientation, and innovation.
- Proven track record in participating and thriving on diverse collaborative teams, working together to reach shared goals.
- Basic proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or similar software.
Requirements
- Must successfully complete a background check and drug screen.
- At least 18 years old.
- Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Emergency/Disaster Management, Business Continuity, Logistics and Supply Chain Management or a related field OR completed a bachelor’s degree in one of those fields no more than 6 months prior to submitting application.
- At this time, only United States citizens are eligible for paid internships.
- Physical requirements: this role may require light to moderate lifting of equipment.
