The Global Green Growth Institute internship program provides a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. CURRENT OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a talented and motivated individual with deep interest on climate mitigation and market development to work with us in the GGGI Lao PDR country office in Vientiane, Lao PDR to support the development and management of technical information and capacity building materials under the Open and Sustainable Carbon Markets project. The intern will specifically focus on providing research and drafting support for the development of the National Carbon Market Strategy and work closely with the Project Manager to deliver on the project outputs. The scope of activities to be undertaken includes, but not limited to:
- Conducting research for and supporting the development of a national carbon market strategy for Lao PDR that is aligned with national circumstances and priorities as well as global practices on market strategy development;
- Supporting the development of capacity-building and training materials related to carbon market governance and Article 6 implementation;
- Researching relevant information, including news and releases of technical inputs from the UNFCCC and other relevant institutions related to Article 6 and preparing brief notes and summary documents of technical information;
- Researching global practices on registry requirements under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement;
- Coordinating meeting schedules with internal and external stakeholders;
- Attending relevant meetings, drafting minutes, and ensuring timely clearance and distribution among the team members;
- Organizing, version controlling & archiving documents in a systematic manner;
- Other tasks relevant to the work on carbon market in GGGI Lao PDR office.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants to the GGGI internship program must at the time of application meet the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s (final year), Master’s or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months.
- Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to the Institute’s work.
- Possess an excellent command of English.
- Preferred Major in Environmental Science, Climate Policy, Economics, or related fields. A strong academic foundation in climate change mitigation, carbon accounting, or market-based environmental instruments is highly desirable.
- Relevant Experience: Applicants with prior experience in research related to carbon markets, Article 6, or drafting reports (e.g., assessing emission reduction potential or project baselines) will be prioritized. ; familiarity with MRV systems or carbon data analysis is a plus.
