Duties and Responsibilities
This internship is located in the United Nations Team of Experts on the Rule of Law and Sexual Violence in Conflict (TOE), Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict (SRSG-SVC). The TOE was created by United Nations Security Council resolution 1888(8) (2009) with the purpose of assisting national authorities in strengthening the rule of law, with the aim of ensuring accountability for conflict-related sexual violence.
In order to carry out its mandate, the TOE is co-led by the Office of the SRSG-SVC, the Department of Peace Operations (DPO), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the United Nations Development Programme.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time. The TOE internship is for an initial period of three months, with an opportunity for extension up to six months, depending on the needs of the TOE. The intern will work for four to five days per week (20h-35h) under the direct supervision of the TOE. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

For an internship with the TOE, a degree in law is preferred.
Demonstrated experience in creating narratives and messaging including for social media, web, and print;
Possess knowledge of social media platforms and web/CMS, including being computer and technologically literate in standard software applications for those purposes;
Have a demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations, especially regarding justice for conflict-related sexual violence, and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter;
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views;
Previous work on media campaigns, outreach initiatives, and/or thematic advocacy efforts is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

For internships in the United States of America, persons who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant (such as F1 or J1 visa) status, will be required to obtain a G4 visa. The selected person will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and approved employment authorization (CPT/OPT/AT), allowing them to undertake the internship.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
