Junior Business Development Specialist

Job Description

This position is in the Business Development Unit and is an integral part of and driver of new business through the proposal development process. The Development Specialist will work with a small business development team and a variety of service line/technical staff to provide exceptional support as an engaged member of capture and proposal teams.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Business Development:
    • Support the knowledge management, including the pipeline, databases, and associated processes.
    • Monitor and research bidding opportunities, announcements, and donor trends; update proposal teams, and maintain accurate information in pipeline database.
    • Support bid decision conversations, and assist with conducting analysis of proposal development and capture progress.
    • Contribute to the development of proposals as assigned, ensuring the proposal is compliant, meets deadlines, and adheres to Cardno’s quality standards; including but not limited to: coordinating proposals; supporting proposal teams to conceptualize and design proposals; researching and creating drafts for proposal sections; and other required proposal development tasks.
    • Assist with proposal recruitment process, identifying appropriate personnel for proposals, drafting proposal CVs and personnel sections, and ensuring information is appropriately filed in corporate systems, including JobAdder.
    • Support proposal production, including formatting documents, editing graphic files, and preparing/packaging final proposal documents.
    • Support marketing and capture efforts.
    • Support training needs; update/develop manuals, general operating procedures, templates, guides and other tools.
    • Support win/loss analysis and developing lessons learned by conducting systemic review of proposals, successful and unsuccessful bids.
    • Promote internal processes, procedures, and best practices.
    • Build a network of professional business contacts to identify potential partnerships, consultants and candidates.
  • Participates in and assist in coordination of eminence building activities and communications efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • One (1) to three (3) years of relevant or equivalent work experience in the international development field.
  • Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred – MBA or relevant international development field.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple activities and priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced, client-focused environment;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Prior proposal development experience;
  • Excellent writing or research capabilities.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and managerial skills; ability to cultivate and maintain professional relationships with colleagues and contacts in donor and peer organizations;
  • Ability to apply in-depth professional-level knowledge to independently solve a full range of complex problems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects and ensure completion of requisite milestones within established deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated in skills in MS Office with software knowledge to utilize a database and produce requisite reports.
  • Strong Word and Excel skills desired. SharePoint experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel internationally 10-25%.
  • U.S. work authorization required.
