Location: Cali, Colombia

The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) works to reduce hunger and poverty, and improve human nutrition in the tropics through research aimed at increasing the eco-efficiency of agriculture. The Program Coordination Unit supports the efficient implementation of the Center’s strategic objectives and their alignment to the CGIAR Consortium research framework. The monitoring and evaluation (M&E) team reports to this unit and provides support on monitoring the research progress of CIAT programs. The M&E team also provides assistance to scientists, the data & information team, and the Office of Partnerships and Communications.

Job Purpose

Support the design and implementation of CIAT’s M&E system.

Responsibilities

  • Support M&E activities related to the design and implementation of key indicators for research programs.
  • Support scientists in developing and refining grant-related project logframes, theories of change and Impact Pathways.
  • Assist with the implementation of a CIAT M&E platform and an internal web-based portal.
  • Assist with conducting internal M&E workshops.
  • Ad-hoc assignments.

Technical competencies

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in Economics, International Development or related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in designing and implementing M&E systems.
  • Good command of the English language (writing and speaking). Other languages would be an asset, particularly Spanish.
  • Experience in managing quantitative and qualitative data and indicators and analyzing these data using spreadsheets software such as SPSS, and Stata.
  • Familiarity with agricultural research and development.

Maintains attention to detail, is able to stay organized and willing to learn, and executes assignments on time and with quality.

Terms of employment

CIAT offers Junior Consultants (aka Visiting Researchers) a monthly stipend paid in US dollars and an airline ticket to and from Cali, Colombia. CIAT will assist in obtaining necessary travel documents, including a work visa.

The position is internationally recruited and will be based at CIAT Headquarters in Palmira, Colombia. The contract will be for at least 6 months up to one year.
