Programme Description

Our client is accelerating the end of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria as epidemics by mobilising and investing nearly US$4 billion a year to support programs run by local experts in countries and communities most in need. Our client relies on independent organisations in its countries of operation known as Local Fund Agents (LFAs). IDAS is looking to recruit Laboratory Experts as part of the LFA team in Ghana.

Job Description

As a Laboratory Expert, you will provide the following services to KPMG on the LFA assignment as detailed below:

  • Conduct detailed laboratory review for grants
  • Conduct laboratory spot checks at the national, regional and district level
  • Verify that laboratory services are of the required standard in accordance with quality assurance policies
  • Estimate the testing coverage and gaps in services, by cross-checking with programmatic results
  • Conduct laboratory supply management review at the central level and service delivery points
  • Any other task commissioned that requires the input of a Laboratory Expert

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include the following amongst others:

  • Prepare reports using agreed format or template
  • The reporting timelines will be agreed on a case by case basis

Professional Experience

A minimum of 10 years of professional experience working in laboratory services and the management of diagnostic products, including:

  • Experience with international agencies on strengthening laboratory services and/or diagnostic product/equipment matters
  • Experience with and strong understanding of the diagnostic platforms used for the management of HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria programmes in limited resource settings
  • Proven expertise in working with and understanding Quality Assurance (QA) systems, the selection of laboratory diagnostics and the implementation of diagnostic programs especially in resource limited settings
  • Working knowledge of procurement and supply chain good practices for diagnostic products
  • Good understanding of the WHO prequalification program and the work of the Global Harmonization Task Force (GHTF)
  • Experience in preparing policy documents and technical guidelines

Qualification

Advanced University Degree in medical biology or pharmacy

Nature / Duration of Contract: Independent Consultant/ Sub-contractor. This is a part-time role in Ghana for residents only

Duration: The Consultant will be required to work on a need basis

Reporting relationship: The Consultant will report to the Team Leader and Engagement Partner.
