Duration of the contract: One year with possible extension
Location:Remote ( Locating in one of the East African Countries is an advantage)
The consultant reports to the MERQ Global Director and will help MERQ develop a winning proposal. The specific tasks include those listed below, but are not limited to:
Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to end process of proposal development, from understanding of the Request For Proposal ( RFP) to submission of quality proposal.
- Provide leadership and coordination to proposal-writing teams while serving as the team’s lead writer.
- Lead the writing of the proposal by incorporating input from technical experts and responding to comments provided by reviewers.
- Closely work with subject matter experts to gather information and insights to enhance the quality and relevance of proposal content.
- Deliver high-quality, tailored content for technical and financial proposals or related documents in full compliance with MERQ and client requirements and quality standards.
- Ensure consistency in proposal writing by complying with MERQ standards and requirements of clients.
- Give presentations to internal team and clients.
- Review the quality of deliverables provided by consultants on a regular basis.
- Prioritize responsibilities and closely follow the proposal writing team to meet deadlines.
- Archive submitted proposals.
- Monitor the status of submitted proposals, develop and implement a bid/proposal tracker.
- Build networking and partnership with key clients.
Qualifications
A post-graduate university degree, such as a Masters or PHD in Public Health, Economics, Health Economics or other related social Sciences.
- At least 5 years of proven experience in leading proposal development process in the social sector ( e.g, health, education, social protection, nutrition). Proven successful ( demonstrable) experience in writing competitive and winning proposals in response to funders solicitations, preferably USAID,UN organizations, BMGF, and MasterCard and affiliated implementing partners.
- Ability to write clearly and concisely to structure arguments in logical fashion, and to balance technical rigor with simple explanations.
- Extensive knowledge of research methodology
- Expertise in monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) approaches, applications, and tools.
- Proven ability to nurture consensus, perform multiple tasks, and be flexible and responsive to rapidly changing demands.
- Demonstrated ability to create or refine systems and tools that support the crafting of high-quality proposals.
- Ability to collaborate successfully in a remote working environment.
- Able to communicate and interact effectively with all stakeholders; is able to work both independently and as part of a team; is able to work under pressure and with limited resources; and demonstrates a high level of discipline.
- Ability to work under short deadlines and manage pressure.
- Advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and other proposal development tools
- Professional English Fluency ( Oral and written) is essential. Fluency and professional writing skills in French are valued.
- Experience in networking and partnership with regional organization and development partner in Africa is valued especially in Central and Eastern Africa.
