Job Description

The role establishes standards for providing high-quality and cost-effective translation and interpretation, develops targets and key performance indicators (KPIs), revises in-house and outsourced translations, directs terminological research, develops and maintains the IDB Style Guide, builds and maintains a database and roster of translators to ensure adequate supply of well-qualified external translators in the required languages and technically guides and assists junior staff. It is responsible for providing accurate, consistent and high-quality translation from two IDB working languages into the third one, of IDB documents, characterized by advanced complexity and technical terminology.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Coordination of activities

  • Ensures timely and quality interpretation and translation during meetings, conferences and other events of the Board of Governors, Board of Executive Directors, BED Committees and IDB managed funds.
  • Assigns translation and interpretation tasks to the team and monitors resource allocation, utilization and progress.
  • Ensures overall consistency, accuracy and adherence to IDB policies, rules and standards in all translation and interpretation activities.
  • Liaises with external service providers for outsourced translation and interpretation, if required.
  • Shares with the team best practices and lessons learned from previous assignments.
  • Oversees the building of the shared translation memory and terminology database.
  • Ensures compliance with IDB-accepted terminology in all translation assignments.
  • Makes improvements regarding the efficiency of relevant processes and activities.
  • Supervises, guides and assesses the assignments of interns.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Translation services

  • Translates using a translation memory software documents of an exceptional nature as requested by the Department Director.
  • Reviews and revises the work of junior staff and provides technical training, coaching and guidance.
  • Ensures translation requests are implemented in time with the highest accuracy, consistency and respect of the expressed style and nuances.
  • Liaises with clients, if needed, on documents requested for translation.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Job Requirements

Academic qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Translation / Interpretation studies, or relevant fields, such as Linguistics, Literature, etc.

Required languages

  • English (Mandatory)
  • Arabic (Mandatory)
  • French (Mandatory)

Minimum number of years and nature of experience

  • 9+ years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 5 years of professional translation / interpreting ideally within the IDB or within similar international organizations such as the United Nations or other MDBs
