Job Description

Legal Publishing Specialist

The Legal Publishing Specialist for the USAID-funded Afghan Rule of Law Project oversees legal publishing activities described in the approved work plan under the supervision of the Senior Legislative Advisor. He/she will implement the ARoLP strategy to publish and distribute Afghan law both in print and electronically.

Reports to the Senior Legislative Advisor.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Implements the publishing strategy outlined in the work plan; Provides leadership and oversight of Afghan staff developing electronic legal information products; Develops strategies for the development and distribution of electronic legal information products; Participates in the development of innovative technology-based solutions to legal information distribution in Afghanistan; Develops training programs for users of electronic legal information products in the justice sector and at law schools; Responsible for the development and maintenance of project and counterpart web sites; In consultation with the Senior Legislative Advisor develops print-based legal information products for Afghan legal professionals; Liaise with international counterparts to gain maximum reach of print-based legal information products throughout Afghanistan; Produce bi-weekly, monthly and quarterly narrative reports and any special reports requested by Senior Legislative Advisor or the Chief of Party.

Qualifications:

Degree in law, or related field with experience in legal publishing 5-10 years of experience in publishing, library or other information sciences area Excellent understanding of legal databases, web design and internet search engines Strong PC expertise specifically Excel, Word, and Adobe Photoshop Excellent oral and written communication skills Strong analytical skills and ability to problem solve in a logical manner Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills
