Logistics Officer (Peace Support Operations Division) (P2)

The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a New Partnership Worldwide. Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia.

In seeking to achieve the objective, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver by, among others, the implementation of a new organizational structure and the filling of all vacant posts.

The Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member States for a position of Logistics Officer in the Department of Peace and Security.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

•Ensure the timely positioning and provision of supplies and equipment for AU peace missions on sustainable basis;

•Analyze and exploit returns on logistics from AU Field Missions and advise the Peace and Security Operations Division (PSOD) accordingly;

•Recommend logistics requirements for individual military personnel, military formed units for new or revised concepts of operations or contingency plans;

•Responsible for the liquidation/disposal of AU Missions’ equipment at the end of AU Peace missions;

•Establish and maintain an AU Logistics Depot;

•Prepare briefs and reports on issues relating to Mission logistics for Supervisors and the Director and the Commissioner for Peace and Security;

•Supervise the work of the Storekeeper (in the day to day work of receiving and issuing goods in the store) as well the Mechanics attached to the Military Logistics Depot (MLD);

•Provide advice on logistics (transport, movement, supply and maintenance) issues associated with planning of potential and current AU missions;

•Ensure that all goods/equipment and service procured by the PSOD are sound quality and fulfil requirements;

• Perform any other tasks as may be assigned by the supervisors.

Educational Qualifications: Candidates must have a relevant degree from any Logistics School or equivalent institution.

Work Experience: Candidates must have at least five (5) years of relevant work experience. Proven record of Service as a Logistics Officer in a regiment shall be an advantage.

Other Relevant Skills
Candidates must have proven record of Service as a Logistics Officer in a regiment
Computer literacy.

Language Requirement: Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages. Knowledge of one or several other working language(s) would be an added advantage.

Age Requirement: Candidates should preferably be between 30 and 45 years old.

Tenure of Appointment: The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.

Remuneration: Indicative basic salary of US$23, per annum plus other related entitlements- e.g. Post adjustment (40% of basic salary), Housing allowance ($12,012 per annum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$6, per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the commission.
