Job Description

Devex Talent Solutions is currently assisting TB Alliance in their search for a Manager, External Affairs that can be based in New York, Washington, DC, or remotely.


BACKGROUND

This position proactively develops and maintains a diversified portfolio of donors for TB Alliance to advance the short and long-term resource mobilization strategy.

Position located in New York, NY with hybrid, flexible work schedule. Domestic and international travel may be required.

This individual engages with a variety of donors (bilateral, multilateral, foundations, etc.) and seeks new funding mechanisms and prospect targets for the organization. S/he manages proposal writing and grant management. This position works under the leadership of the Senior Director for External Affairs, while also strategically consulting the senior management team directly for donor engagement opportunities, independently exercising judgement. It is anticipated that there will be a 50/50 split between new prospect research/engagement and stewardship of existing donor portfolio.

This individual works in partnership with other External Affairs and Communications team members as well as cross-functional teams in R&D, Market Access, and Finance. S/he will interact with several outside stakeholders ranging from donors to NGO/academia partners, advocates, and consultants, and will represent TB Alliance in public as needed.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to resource mobilization strategies and their development, from prospect research to proposal writing/submission and grant management/implementation.
  • Diversify/increase/deepen the donor base, both for core funding to the organization, and project-specific funding to meet departmental goals and initiatives, while building capacity across departments to meet unique donor requirements for proposals and grants.
  • Manage and coordinate the execution of donor fulfilment activities, among TB Alliance colleagues and external partners, as well as respond to ad-hoc donor requests. Represent TB Alliance in external meetings as needed.
  • Effectively manage partnership agreements with donors and consortia partners together with colleagues, including reviewing/executing contracts, budgeting and forecasting, milestone/deliverable tracking, and contractual amendments.
  • Develop proposals and concept notes, managing relationships with current and prospective TB Alliance donors, coordinating input from colleagues and external partners when needed.
  • Gather intelligence, conducting, and overseeing research into prospect identification and donor solicitations. Incorporate communication and policy/advocacy strategies and tactics to mobilize resources and create an enabling environment for TB drug research.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Five to ten years of relevant experience in fundraising and grant development, preferably in a research context. Experience with global/public health policy, international development, research & development, and advocacy.
  • Bachelor’s degree in science or public health/international development required. An advanced relevant degree is preferred.
  • Experience and proven success in managing proposals and awards within a consortia environment, both as lead implementer, and sub-implementer.
  • Proven success in developing relationships of mutual trust and partnership with donors, government agencies, key opinion leaders, advocates, and other stakeholders; experience in building coalitions and consortiums for both proposals as well as advocacy initiatives.
  • Excellent writing and overall communication skills and abilities; proven ability to understand and communicate complex scientific information for a range of audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and across the organization; excellent teamwork skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to effectively manage both internal colleagues and external partners across a global platform.
  • A self-starter with good judgment, the ability to work in a complex scientific environment and adapt quickly to changing needs and priorities.
  • Able to represent the organization in external meetings and conferences, with confidence in presenting TB Alliance information and organizational strategies/goals effectively.
  • Sensitivity toward cultural diversity and an ability to work across various regions of the world.
  • Responsible for compliance with applicable GxP regulations in performing the functions of the job and completion of applicable regulatory trainings provided by TB Alliance.


Compensation and Benefits:

As part of our overall compensation package, we offer a competitive salary, comprehensive health benefits, generous retirement contributions, and work/life flexibility designed to support you and your family.

Starting salary is expected to be in the range of US$96,000 - $120,000, exact salary will be commensurate with skills and experience and adjusted to reflect local currency for candidates outside the US.
