Job Description

Gradian Health Systems equips hospitals to deliver anaesthesia safely and economically. Our mission is to improve access to safe surgery and perioperative care in low-resource settings by providing technology, service and training to strengthen anaesthesia capabilities. We design and build equipment used worldwide in hospitals ranging from world-renowned academic centers to resource-constrained district facilities. We are a social enterprise collaborating with partners in clinical medicine, national health systems, medical technology and philanthropy.

THE POSITION

Gradian Health Systems is seeking an experienced professional to drive interest in our product, the Universal Anaesthesia Machine, and corporate focus on safe surgical care and to raise our profile among key international and domestic donors, distributors, and government agencies. As a young company with a global presence, we are looking for someone who is comfortable developing a breadth of international communications materials for diverse platforms, audiences and purposes. Based in New York, this position will report to the Vice President of Business Strategy and work with each part of Gradian’s growing business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and implement company-wide marketing communications plan with executive team and colleagues from technical and strategy teams

This position will be the focal person for the creation – and implementation – of Gradian’s long-term marketing communications work. You will:

o Communicate Gradian’s mission as a social enterprise focused both on sales of the Universal Anaesthesia Machine (UAM) and improving surgical care more broadly around the world

o Market the UAM to multiple constituencies including donors, distributors, clinicians and governments

o Systematize external communications including newsletter, service updates, routine messaging to customers and social media presence

o Hone Gradian’s brand and ensure all communications are consistent with the brand.

Manage redesign of company website and digital/print marketing materials

Gradian’s website is in need of an overhaul to better serve our various stakeholders and leverage our global network of trainers, technicians and customers. The marketing and communications manager will have primary responsibility for this initiative and ongoing management of the website. This will involve:

o Selecting and supervising an external firm to carry out entire redesign process incorporating feedback from staff and customers to ensure site is relevant to diverse constituencies

o Designing electronic and digital marketing materials that are consistent with website and brand

o Ongoing management of website content including blog posts and other dynamic material

o Ongoing management of Gradian’s social media/digital presence

Create dynamic platform to deliver existing clinical and technical training material

Training for the UAM is one of Gradian’s core functions and competitive advantages. The Marketing and Communications manager will work with outside developers to create a dynamic platform to deliver and strengthen new and existing training content to make this service more portable and engaging for both trainers and learners.

Continuously pursue US- and international-based opportunities for product placement and media coverage

o Identify conferences and other opportunities to promote Gradian and its core product, the Universal Anaesthesia Machine (UAM)

o Take advantage of natural media moments and shape new opportunities, maximizing representation in traditional and online media opportunities

o Solicit coverage by journalists and commentators

Other roles as needed

Gradian is a small start-up. Our job descriptions are the minimum expected from each employee. The marketing and communications manager will be relied upon for many activities outside of those mentioned. Some of those could be:

o Craft speaking points and messages for executive team

o Oversee production of video material

o Design/layout of technical materials

o Represent senior management to the press

QUALIFICATIONS

· 5-10 years experience in marketing or communications role in non-profit, social enterprise or for-profit sector

· Experience in with low-income countries is an advantage

· Stellar verbal, written and interpersonal skills

· Experience in educational design is strongly desired

· Background in medical or tech environment is preferred.

· English fluency required, French competency/fluency strongly desired

· Ability to thrive in unstructured, fast-paced entrepreneurial environment. The successful candidate will be motivated by the need to think out-of-the box without significant direction.

· Personal drive, sense of humor and ability to adapt on the fly are required.
