Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Female MEAL Intern

About the job

The MEAL Intern will support data collection, data entry, accountability mechanisms, and basic analysis to strengthen program quality and evidence-based decision-making. This internship targets female graduates with foundational knowledge in research, data, or community engagement who wish to build technical skills in MEAL within a humanitarian NGO.

Reporting to: Area Program Manager

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for employees on national contract.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Data Collection & Field Monitoring

  • Participate in field data collection activities using digital tools (e.g., Kobo, ODK).
  • Support post-distribution monitoring, needs assessments, and beneficiary verification exercises.
  • Conduct household interviews, focus group discussions, and direct observations as needed.
  • Ensure high-quality, ethical, and gender-sensitive data collection.

Data Entry, Cleaning & Basic Analysis

  • Enter quantitative and qualitative data into MEAL databases and templates.
  • Support the cleaning, verification, and organization of datasets.
  • Assist in producing simple summary tables, graphs, and descriptive analysis.
  • Maintain secure storage of data in line with data protection and confidentiality standards.

Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP)

  • Support the operation of Complaints Feedback and Response Mechanisms (CFRM/CFM).
  • Assist in receiving, cleaning, logging, and categorizing community feedback.
  • Ensure timely referral and follow-up of complaints with relevant departments.
  • Participate in community sensitization on accountability channels.

Learning & Programme Support

  • Help document lessons learned, case studies, and good practices.
  • Support MEAL staff in preparing presentations, briefs, and visual summaries.
  • Assist with report compilation for monthly or quarterly MEAL updates.
  • Participate in internal learning workshops and programme reviews.

Documentation & Administrative Support

  • Ensure proper filing of MEAL tools, reports, raw data, and supporting documents.
  • Assist in preparing and organizing training materials and logistics for MEAL activities.
  • Perform any other MEAL-related duties assigned by the MEAL Officer or Coordinator.

Self-Learning & Professional Development

  • Engage in on-the-job learning through active participation in MEAL field missions and data processes.
  • Receive mentorship and structured coaching from the MEAL Officer and MEAL Coordinator.
  • Participate in internal training sessions on data tools, MEAL standards, accountability, and humanitarian principles.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree (or final-year student) in Social Sciences, Statistics, Development Studies, Economics, Public Health, or other relevant fields.
  • 6 months expereince with (internship, volunteer work, field surveys, or coursework) in MEAL, data collection, research,M&E, community engagement, or social sciences.
  • Basic understanding of monitoring and evaluation concepts is preferred.
  • Ability to use smartphones/tablets and interest in learning digital data collection tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially with diverse communities.
  • Good command of Microsoft Excel and willingness to learn data analysis skills.
  • High integrity, attention to detail, and ability to manage sensitive information confidentially.
