Job Description

The Danish Media and Campaigns Advisor will play a central role in leading DRC’s media strategy in Denmark, coordinating impactful campaigns across multiple platforms and ensuring editorial quality in all communication content. The position aims to develop strong narratives and campaigns that support DRC’s global mission on conflict-induced displacement, with a particular focus on the Danish media landscape.

The position combines media engagement and sales, campaign coordination, and editorial work to increase visibility, strengthen our messages, and support the organization’s advocacy and fundraising goals.

Who are we?

The Danish Media and Communications Advisor will play a central role in leading DRC’s Danish media strategy, ensuring editorial expertise across content and platforms, and strengthening the organization’s presence in Danish media. The position contributes to shaping compelling stories and strategic messages that support DRC’s global mission to reduce forced displacement, with a strong focus on the Danish media landscape.

This role combines media relations, editorial oversight, message development, and coordination of select campaigns, while supporting DRC’s broader advocacy and fundraising objectives.

Your tasks

Danish media strategy and cooperation with media

  • Develop and implement DRC’s Danish media strategy with the aim of increasing awareness of the organization’s work and influence.
  • Handle inquiries from Danish media and maintain strong, proactive relationships with Danish media and international correspondents based in Denmark.
  • Pitch stories, write editorials and maintain ongoing collaborations with Danish media.
  • Organize media events, including workshops and field visits for Danish journalists.
  • Provide media training to DRC’s management and spokespersons in collaboration with our Global Media Coordinator.

Editorial overview and content management

  • Lead editorial meetings with other relevant departments (Digital, Media, Internal Communications) to coordinate the identification, organization and dissemination of content.
  • Maintain the editorial communication calendar and ensure adherence to editorial guidelines, including tone, style, ethical sourcing and consistency.
  • Be responsible for creating, selecting and editing written content to ensure alignment with brand and strategic goals.

Campaign coordination and multimedia production

  • Lead the strategic development of campaigns across multiple platforms that support DRC’s priority themes, advocacy, and our impact goals.

Your profile

  • Minimum 8 years of professional experience in journalism, working with media or strategic communication - preferably within the humanitarian sector, nonprofit organizations or public affairs.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Danish media landscape, including strong relationships with national and regional journalists, editors and media houses.
  • Documented ability to proactively develop and pitch stories that achieve impact in Danish media, including opinion pieces, feature articles and TV spots.
  • Experience with media management of crises and development of communication strategies in dynamic and pressured situations.
  • Strong understanding of the political and humanitarian context.
  • Excellent writing, editing and developing skills with a focus on accuracy, clarity and tone in both Danish and English.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary and cross-cultural collaboration and collaboration with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Professional knowledge of design programs and multimedia production is an advantage.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating the ability to convey engaging narratives through multimedia products, including videos.
  • Knowledge of video editing programs, including AI-based tools.
  • Documented experience with planning, implementing and evaluating public campaigns - preferably in an international NGO or other international context.

Workplace: Borgergade 10, 1300 Copenhagen. The Danish Refugee Council’s headquarters in Copenhagen will move in the autumn of 2025 to Lyngbyvej 100, 2100 Østerbro, right next to Ryparken station.

Salary and employment terms: Terms are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement concluded between the Danish Refugee Council and the relevant organization.

The position is permanent.
