Job Description

Overview of the Position The Media & Publications Officer will be responsible for stakeholder communication to enhance understanding and support of the work of the Forum Fisheries Agency and the implementation of the communications strategies of the Forum Fisheries Agency. The position is responsible to the Director- General through the Director of Corporate Services for the efficient management of FFA’s information dissemination and publication services.

Key Accountabilities - Compile and produce the Annual Report of the Director-General. - Coordinate FFA’s relation with the media and arrange media releases for the Secretariat and its programmes. - Write and compile content for FFA circulars, newsletters, media releases and annual reports. - Arrange circulation of FFA newsletters, circulars, Calender of meetings to FFA members and any other relevant organisation. - Prepare and produce FFA brochures. - Promote public awareness of the FFA and its work through the use of appropriate publication and advertising materials. - Provide technical advice in developing and implementing communication initiatives and strategies for FFA and its programmes. - Maintain and manage the contents of the Agency’s website ensuring contents are up to date and relevant to the Agency’s business plan and annual work plans. - Undertake other duties as directed by the Director-General and Director Corporate Services from time to time.

SELECTION CRITERIA: Essential skills, qualifications and experience: - Appropriate tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, journalism or a relevant field. - At least five years experience in editing and publishing at a senior level and demonstrated ability in professional publications production under strict deadlines. - Demonstrated ability to edit and write a wide range of materials for a diverse target audience with advanced knowledge of computerised editing and publishing software. - Excellent communication and writing skills. - Sound computer, layout and publishing skills, with relevant technical knowledge in production of technical documents and meeting reports in print and electronic form. - Self starter who can work effectively with minimal supervision as part of an inter-disciplinary and/or multi-cultural team. - Experience in writing, editing and publishing articles on website.

Desirable skills, qualifications and experience: - Knowledge on the use of website content management system (CMS). - Experience working in the Pacific and/or a developing country situation. - Experience in a similar size organisation. - Ability to work as a team player in a multicultural work environment.
