Description

Org. Setting and Reporting

The incumbent of the post is responsible to Head Health Centre (B) or Deputy Head Health Centre (A) or the Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist (as applicable) and receives technical supervision from the Field Laboratory Services Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Performs the full range of laboratory services including biochemistry, hematology, serology, routine (urine and stool examination) and bacteriology:
  • Ensures accuracy and completeness of laboratory information in the computerised health information system (e-Health);
  • Maintains laboratory equipment, supplies and reagents;
  • Updates the programming of the automated laboratory equipment and follows up the preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment;
  • At Health Centres without Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist:
    1. prepares estimates of requirements for replenishment of consumable supplies
    2. prepares the monthly and annual laboratory statistical report;
    3. Reviews and analyzes quality control results (internal and external) and makes the necessary intervention
  • Performs such other duties and assignments as may be required.

Education

  1. Full secondary education;
  2. Completion of a two-year diploma of medical laboratory technician from a recognized institution.
  3. Possession of a license to practice laboratory services in Syrian Arab Republic.

Work Experience

  • At least two years experience in a providing medical laboratory services is required
  • Experience in the use of computers and an understanding of their use in health applications.
  • Experience in providing medical services in the UN, INGOs and international organizations is desirable

Languages

  • Good command of written and spoken English and Arabic.

Assessment

  • Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice

Experience in providing medical services in the UN, INGOs and familiarity with the agency health services is desirable.

* Conditions of service:

Contract Status:

  • Fixed term Appointment for 3 years; including 1 year of probation period, with the possibility of further extension, subject to the availability of funds, satisfactory performance and continuing need.
  • Monthly basic salary: 510.80 USD
  • Grade: Level 01

Other benefits include:

  • Provident Fund contribution (15.2% of basic salary paid by the Agency).

  • 30 days of annual leave in addition to maternity, paternity and sick leaves.
