Job Description

Established in 1964, the African Development Bank is the premier pan-African development institution fostering economic growth and social progress in Africa. The Bank’s primary goal is to reduce poverty and improve living standards by mobilising resources in and outside Africa and providing financial and technical assistance for development projects and programs in Africa. The AfDB has a total of 77 member states comprising 53 regional (African) and 24 non-regional countries.

The ADB currently has the following vacancies:

DIVISION MANAGER, INVESTMENT DIVISION, TREASURY DEPARTMENT – (Ref.: VN ADB/06/062) Provide strategic leadership and vision in managing the Bank Group’s treasury assets with the objective of capital preservation, profitability and liquidity maintenance in accordance with investment guidelines.

SENIOR INVESTMENTS OFFICER, INVESTMENT DIVISION, TREASURY DEPARTMENT – (Ref.: VN ADB/06/061) Manage the Bank’s assets versus the specific benchmark or fixed liability. Determine the optimal asset allocation to maximize risk-adjusted returns through the identification and recommendation of investment products and trading strategies.

SENIOR PROCUREMENT EXPERT, ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL REFORMS DIVISION, GOVERNANCE, ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL REFORMS DEPARTMENT – (Ref.: VN ADB/06/072) Supervise and monitor projects financed by the Bank Group on all issues related to procurement procedures for goods, works and consultancy services. Advise on all aspects of procurement throughout the project cycle.

PRINCIPAL FINANCIAL ECONOMIST, ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL REFORMS DIVISION, GOVERNANCE, ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL REFORMS DEPARTMENT – (Ref.: VN ADB/06/073) Prepare policy statements, papers, briefs and various reports on financial management and financial sector development issues.

PRINCIPAL MACRO-ECONOMIST (2 positions), ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL REFORMS DIVISION, GOVERNANCE, ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL REFORMS DEPARTMENT – (Ref.: VN ADB/06/068) Identify economic and financial reforms and capacity building projects with a view to supplying the Bank’s project pipeline.

CHIEF WATER AND SANITATION ENGINEER (Ref.: VN ADB/06/063), SENIOR WATER AND SANITATION ENGINEER, WATER AND SANITATION DIVISION, WATER INITIATIVES DEPARTMENT – (Ref.: VN ADB/06/065) Prepare/contribute to the annual programme of activities in water and sanitation sector programme management. Define the Bank’s operations strategy in the water and sanitation sectors in borrower countries.

PRINCIPAL INVESTMENT OFFICER, FINANCIAL INTERMEDIATION AND MICROFINANCE DIVISION, PRIVATE SECTOR DEPARTMENT – (Ref.: VN ADB/06/064) Promote private sector development in regional member countries, through financial intermediation and related financial sector development. Identify and structure financial packages for projects in the financial sector and process and monitor investments.

SENIOR INVESTMENT OFFICER, INFRASTRUCTURE AND PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP DIVISION, PRIVATE SECTOR DEPARTMENT – (Ref.: VN ADB/06/059) Promote private sector development in regional member countries through financing private enterprises, public-private partnerships and projects. Provide technical assistance and advisory services aimed at creating enabling environments for private sector development investments.

SENIOR PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT OFFICER, PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT DIVISION, PRIVATE SECTOR DEPARTMENT – (Ref.: VN ADB/06/067) Assist with the management of private sector, enclave projects and public sector equity investment portfolios. Conduct field supervision missions of private sector projects, public sector equity investments, public sector lines of credit, enclave projects and other non-sovereign guaranteed projects.

PORTFOLIO DATA ANALYST (2 positions), INFRASTRUCTURE DEPARTMENT AND WATER AND SANITATION DEPARTMENT– (Ref.: VN ADB/06/071) Assist project managers in all aspects relating to the portfolio management: manage the department’s database of active and pipeline projects.

CHIEF STATISTICIAN, ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL STATISTICS DIVISION, STATISTICS DEPARTMENT – (Ref.: VN ADB/06/058) Provide leadership and advice on economic statistics relating to concepts, methods, classifications and best practices. Provide advice on statistical matters, develop methodological frameworks and apply quantitative methods, such as trend analyses and forecasting methods to estimate socio-economic aggregates of African countries at the regional and sub-regional levels and provide analysis of socio-economic trends in African countries.

PRINCIPAL STATISTICIAN, STATISTICAL CAPACITY BUILDING DIVISON, STATISTICS DEPARTMENT – (Ref.: VN ADB/06/57) Coordinate the implementation of the Reference Regional Strategic Framework for Statistical Development in Africa (RRSF).

STATISTICIAN (2 positions), STATISTICAL CAPACITY BUILDING DIVISON, STATISTICS DEPARTMENT – (Ref.: VN ADB/06/056) Provide technical support for ongoing International Comparison Program’s Price Surveys in Regional member countries. Provide support to regional member countries to establish systems for policy design, monitoring and evaluation.

STATISTICIAN, ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL STATISTICS DIVISION, STATISTICS DEPARTMENT – (Ref.: VN ADB/06/055) Providing and maintaining statistical database on regional member countries to support the Bank’s analytical work, in the specialized fields of socioeconomic statistics and Bank Group Operations statistics. Providing support to estimate and analyze macroeconomic aggregates on regional member countries and at the regional and sub-regional levels, identifying indicators, developing models, and applying statistical methods such as trend analysis, forecasting methods to estimate aggregates.
