Role Overview

We are recruiting for National Peripatetic Domestic Abuse Workers who will work at all our refuges, outreach, and advocacy and any other Refuge schemes dependent upon the needs of the services to provide high quality support and safety planning to women and children in crisis, this includes enabling women to access housing, welfare, benefits, and legal advice.

A key requirement is to provide personal welfare support and to ensure that women are provided with a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment in accordance with Refuge’s philosophical principles.

Location: Nationwide

Contract type: Permanent

Hours: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality professional service to survivors of domestic violence.
  • Work from any of our national sites.
  • Providing cover for services who need additional staff.
  • Required to travel including some Monday – Friday overnight stays during your assignments.
  • Providing practice and emotional support to men, women, and their children.
  • Advocating on their behalf in areas such as welfare, housing, courts, and police.
  • Providing emotional support as well as supporting clients to move to safe permanent accommodation.
  • Conducting key work sessions and keeping casework records up to date.
  • Working within a multi-agency framework to develop referral, joint working and information sharing protocols.

Essential Skills or Experience

  • Experience of providing emotional, practical and welfare support.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of housing, criminal, civil and welfare rights legislation relating to domestic violence.
  • Strong casework management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills combined with a non-judgmental and confidential approach to supporting clients.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to use own initiative.
  • Must be able to travel nationwide.
  • Ability to work as part of an on-call rota.
  • A commitment to the feminist values of empowerment and equality.

Desirable Skills or Experience

  • A recognised social work/housing/legal/ counselling or other relevant qualification.
  • Experience in attending court in a professional capacity.
  • Experience of identifying and responding to the risks to and needs of survivors of domestic violence and other forms of violence and abuse.
  • Experience of working in a residential setting/ refuge.
