Job Description

SIF seeks a full-time NGO Program Coordinator for the Iniciativa para promover la autonomía económica de las mujeres sobrevivientes de la violencia en los departamentos, based in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Reporting to SIF’s Director of Programs and Operations, the NGO Program Coordinator will work with a wide range of NGO partners and government offices to facilitate, refer and coordinate services for survivors of violence.

S/he will serve as an integral part of the program leadership team, focused on directly serving women survivors of violence and coordinating with NGO partners receiving grant funds as a part of the program. This Initiative will take place in two departments of Guatemala: Chimaltenango and Alta Verapaz.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Work with the MP, mainly prosecutors and social worker working with women survivors of gender violence, to define the profile of eligible clients to participate in the program;
  • Create a database of eligible clients who are ready to participate in economic empowerment opportunities, including their current skills and interests;
  • Support clients to access critical services including: medical and legal support, emergency shelter and housing, transportation, clothing, food, child care, psychological support, legal support and interpretation services in Mayan languages if necessary and other services essential to help clients build safe, independent lives;
  • Manage theclient services budget;
  • Coordinate with specialists in the network of providers, including therapists, social workers, psychiatrists, lawyers, and medical staff, to establish an individual care plan for the client;
  • Meet regularly with clients to track and monitor progress towards their personal goals and with regards to their legal case, and document access to services in the network in order to advance the self-respect, personal dignity, rights and physical safety of each client;
  • Participate in weekly clinical conferences and attend trainings as needed – Home visits and frequent travel to network providers will be required throughout the two departments of this Initiative (Chimaltenango and Alta Verapaz) and Guatemala City area;
  • Coordinate with SIF’s partner to adapt and implement their leadership development and vocational training curriculum for clients;
  • Work with consultants to match clients with appropriate economic empowerment opportunities, including: vocational, entrepreneurial and leadership training, internships and job placements;
  • Maintain records and prepare reports on number of clients served, referrals to service providers, and other information as needed to track services for clients;
  • Coordinate with Director of Programs and Operations to manage grant funds distributed to NGO partners amongst members of the Ministerio Publico’s Red de Derivacion to provide critical services to women survivors of violence;
  • Work with SIF’s Director of Programs and Operations and consultants to develop a sustainability plan for the Initiative.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in the field of social services;
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in psychology, social work or a related field;
  • Mental Health or Social Work licensure or certification preferred;
  • Previous experience working with global development sector and/or nonprofit sectors preferred;
  • Must have excellent organizational, time management, communication and writing skills;
  • Experience with grantmaking procedures and reporting requirements of NGOs preferred;
  • Knowledge and experience working with the legal system in Guatemala, and familiarity with cases of violence against women required;
  • Fluency in Spanish required. Basic English helpful, but not required. Knowledge of local indigenous language preferred;
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Guatemala.
