Job Description

The Nutrition and Food Systems Specialist will act as technical lead for integrating nutrition-sensitive agriculture and food systems development strategies and activities within the USAID/Madagascar Feed the Future project for NCBA CLUSA and its partners. He/she will build capacity of the project team and partners to implement NCBA CLUSA’s nutrition-sensitive agriculture approach, including conducting food environment analyses to identify barriers and opportunities, designing context-specific nutrition-sensitive activities with local market and food system actors, and providing on-going mentoring and technical guidance. Support other technical teams such as gender and social inclusion, agriculture and market systems to incorporate nutrition sensitive agriculture into their interventions. Work with country-level and HQ staff to provide feedback on and develop technical work plans and review technical reports/materials. Advise project team on how to put in place effective monitoring and evaluation indicators and processes for nutrition integration. Lead and support field data collection efforts for the refinement of project activities and to develop project-specific nutrition-sensitive and food systems learning. Develop technical and programmatic scopes of work for consultants or volunteers visiting field offices on nutrition related topics.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience and technical knowledge in nutrition-sensitive agriculture and/or food systems, supporting food security, agricultural, or gender and/or social behavior change projects and activities.

  • Experience conducting nutrition analyses/assessments and trainings in Madagascar preferred.

  • Demonstrated expertise in food security and nutrition specifically within the context of Madagascar. 

  • Knowledge of USAID donor rules, regulations, and processes preferred.

  • Fluency in French is required.

  • Good writing and communication skills in English for writing reports, scopes of work, etc.

  • Excellent analytical and technical skills and expertise with the ability to work independently.

  • Strong interpersonal and team skills, with ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
