This is a part-time position (24 hours/week)

Position Summary

The Technical Nutrition Writer works as a critical member of the KLL team, playing a lead role in developing and writing effective communications and knowledge materials that share A&T experience, successes, and learning, through our website, as well as through other mechanisms used at country, regional and global levels. The Technical Nutrition Writer works under the guidance of the Knowledge Leadership and Learning Director, but is anticipated to work primarily independently on a discrete set of tasks with little regular support. As a key international /public health technical and communication resource on the KLL team, which also leads social and behavior change communications (SBCC) capacity building and technical assistance, the Technical Nutrition Writer will also assist with developing tools and materials that support SBCC capacity building, and technical assistance across the countries and regions. The Technical Nutrition Writer will contribute to achieving the KLL team’s overall workplan objectives by bringing a strong foundation of nutrition/public health and communications expertise, insights, and experience in international public health nutrition program implementation, as well as the capacity to effectively communicate on international public health nutrition programs and policies.

Accountabilities

• Writing and communications. Develop and write compelling narrative and other materials (e.g. briefs and summaries) based on various sources of input—e.g., the A&T monthly that shares activities across regions and countries monthly, information from field office reports and other materials generated from the field, and globally—primarily for the website. Contribute to writing and editing the A&T Monthly, as needed
• Knowledge generation. Develop and create knowledge products based on A&T past and current experience in A&T countries and regions, for both regional and global audiences.
• Quality control and communications. Lead the process, and ensure the quality of materials, generated in the countries and regions that are submitted to KLL for final design, writing, formatting and editing.
• Technical leadership. Provide technical leadership in reviewing and producing technical documents (e.g., reports, briefs).
• Management support. Coordinate with employees and consultants and make assignments to meet the need for design, writing, formatting, and editing of documentation.

• Capacity building. Participate in developing and implementing internally and externally-focused capacity building activities, particularly related to SBCC.
• Planning and strategic thinking. Contribute to planning and review functions of the KLL team.

Education:

• Master’s degree in nutrition or public health with nutrition emphasis, preferred

Experience:

• Highly prefers 15 years of relevant experience, with at least 2 years of field-based experience in public health/nutrition programs
• Typically requires 8+ years of developing, writing, and editing materials for technical publications.
• Requires a minimum of 5 years of managing the publication process.

Specific Requirements:

• Experience in international maternal infant and young child nutrition programming
• Superlative writing skills
• Significant experience documenting nutrition/public health programs, preparing nutrition/public health proposals, or other experience that demonstrates a stellar capacity to communicate clearly on international public health nutrition programs and advocacy
• Considered a technical expert in public health and/or nutrition
• Excellent oral communication skills
• Experience in, or significant familiarity with, social behavior change communications for public health/nutrition
• Experience in providing training or technical assistance in nutrition social and behavior change, preferred but not required
• Flexible, adaptable, and able to work in a changing environment
• Able to work independently, as well as on a team

Skills:

• Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills
• French proficiency a plus, but not a requirement
• Trainer, facilitator expertise a plus, but not required

Travel Requirements:

• None, but desirable, less than 20%
