Job Description

The Australian Government’s

Fiji Program Support Facility announces:

Patient Experience and Customer Service Adviser (Health)

  • Opportunity to help Fiji deliver improved access and patient experiences in healthcare
  • Full time, 8 month contract (long term adviser) negotiable
  • Inputs based in Suva, Fiji. Some travel within Fiji will be required.

The Program

The Australian Government has established the Fiji Program Support Facility (the Facility) to implement its education, health and scholarship aid programs in Fiji and its scholarship and education programs in Tuvalu. The Facility will also support the delivery of Australia’s emergency response efforts following natural disasters, and governance sector support when requested by the Fiji Government.

Support to Fiji’s health sector is one of several key components in the Facility. The focus of the support is on strengthening health service delivery (e.g. maternal services) as well as health systems strengthening (e.g. planning, financial management, workforce development and information).

The Position

Enhancing people’s experience of healthcare services is a key component in patient safety, engagement in their own health, and improved access for marginalised groups. The Patient Experience and Customer Service Adviser will support the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to develop multi-prong program of activities to help enhance people’s experience as they interact with Fiji’s public health services. This will include the experience of marginalised groups including women, people with disabilities, rural populations, youth, elderly and members of the LGBT community. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Scoping the current customer experience perspectives with Fiji’s health services
  • Researching similar customer service / patient experience programs in other relevant countries
  • Working collaboratively with the MoHMS to co-design a multi-pronged customer service program with a focus on gender equality and social inclusion. The design will include a system change approach including components such as targets, patient feedback surveys, training, supporting innovations and awards

The Person

The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in a relevant area such as Organisational Development, Anthropology, Learning and Development or other relevant discipline. This will be combined with considerable practical experience facilitating the design of similar patient experience programs in partnership with senior managers and in supporting system level culture change. Demonstrated hands-on experience in evidence-based planning and monitoring and evaluation is required as well as the ability to mainstream cross cutting themes into program activities, including gender equality, social inclusion and child protection. Excellent skills in working with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and in coaching and mentoring professional colleagues is required for success. Previous experience working in the Pacific is desirable.
