Job Description

The Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) engineer will ensure the proper handling, storage, and shipment of petroleum-based products, such as oil and fuel. They will primarily be responsible for the supervision and management, the reception, storage, security and shipping of bulk or packaged petroleum products. This will include operating specialized pumping and support equipment to load fuel supply storage tanks, selecting and submitting samples of petroleum-based products for daily testing, performing petroleum and water accounting activities, testing petroleum samples for contamination, maintaining and repairing specialized equipment, and maintaining fuel management logs/files. The POL Engineer must have a working knowledge of facility safety/fire guidelines and storage procedures. Additionally, they must be familiar with US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Standards, Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and Federal Acquisition Regulations FAR part 45.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Inspecting, testing, receiving and protecting fuel supplies and bulk petroleum, petrochemical and chemical products; monitoring usage; enforcing safety standards in and around the Kabul, Afghanistan area and maintaining fuel logs and records.
  • Physically sampling, measuring, and taking the temperature of delivery trucks and storage tanks utilizing a variety of methods dictated by company and API procedures.
  • Calculating and reporting quantities transferred and performing full reconciliation of same.
  • Accurately completing all required reports and forms, including detailed work order documentation and ordering of all known material for maintenance activities.
  • Working in cooperation with client representatives, U.S. government agents and Host Nation personnel to insure accurate results are achieved.
  • Maintaining regular communication with office staff in reference to job status, problems, concerns, etc.
  • Maintaining knowledge and adhering to the latest industry and client procedures and standards.
  • Providing guidance and assisting in the training of Host Nation operators.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED), US Passport and Citizenship
  • Minimum of five years’ experience or combination of education/technical training in petroleum, oil and lubricant (POL) subject area
  • Must have exemplary interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals and/or groups both within the organization or while representing the organization, in English
  • Basic math comprehension with an aptitude for fractions
  • Must be able to perform job duties as it pertains to support equipment operation and maintenance execution; working outdoors during adverse weather conditions (rain, heat, cold, etc.,); working in confined spaces; climbing storage tank ladders and stairs (typically 25 to 65 feet high); carrying up to 75 pounds of samples, gear or equipment; differentiating between colors accurately by sight, in regard to collecting samples
  • Flexible schedule and availability for 6 days (on call 24 hours) and 1 day off; additionally, extended or abnormal hours (evenings, weekend / holiday) will occasionally be required in order to meet business commitments.
  • Current certification in Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in supervision or managing staff
