Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

To assist in the development and implementation of Amnesty International’s advocacy strategies towards the European Union (EU) and Council of Europe (CoE) by providing the EIO Advocacy team with support and assistance. This will include administrative support to the Advocacy team, monitoring policy and legal developments, drafting texts, ensuring effective internal and external dissemination, and supporting the team’s engagement with a wide range of colleagues, teams and entities within Amnesty as well as external partners and stakeholders.

This role will work closely with advocacy and media colleagues working at EU and Council of Europe level, engage with external stakeholders including policy makers and civil society organisations, and work with other Amnesty’s global teams, regional offices and national sections.

ABOUT YOU:

You will have previous knowledge and experience of human rights in the European region, with an excellent attention to details, allowing you to draft excellent policy and advocacy materials. You will be able to gather and process human-rights related material and work closely with a collaborative team.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the EIO’s advocacy activities by gathering and managing information on policy developments, media monitoring, online research, manual and electronic filing, developing and maintaining contact databases, and ensuring efficient dissemination of Amnesty’s documents and outputs within the European Institutions, with external partners and within the Amnesty’ movement.
  • Assist with the production and distribution of advocacy briefings, updates and other documents, including drafting, formatting, editing/proofreading, distribution of texts and, where appropriate, coordinating the translation of documents.
  • Drafting official correspondence and internal documents; monitoring developments; managing information and communications systems; organizing and scheduling meetings; drafting and assisting in the production of documents; supporting engagement and correspondence with partners, and liaising with relevant internal and external counterparts including Amnesty’s national entities and Regional Offices.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • General knowledge of the human rights in the Europe region; of the European Human Rights system; knowledge or experience in the EU and Council of Europe’s institutions is a strong asset
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to draft and proofread policy and advocacy materials tailored to the appropriate audience
  • Background in Law, International Relations, European studies or political science
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with fluency in another European language, particularly French, highly desirable
  • Experience of information management, including the creation and maintenance of electronic databases
