Duties and Responsibilities
The Political Affairs Intern will work under the overall guidance of the Chief of MEU and direct supervision of the internship coordinator. This is an unpaid, full-time, and in-person internship at the New York duty station.

  • Interns will be assigned a primary supervisor
  • Expected to follow official working hours (five days a week with one hour for lunch)
  • Flexible time arrangements may be considered upon request

Daily responsibilities will depend on the intern’s background, assigned tasks, and the internship period. Tasks may include:

  • Drafting and preparing official documents, summaries, talking points, speeches, remarks, and web content
  • Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings
  • Conducting research, including document, media, and internet searches
  • Assisting during conferences and meetings
  • Performing other duties as required

Start date: September 2025
Minimum duration: 3 months

Qualifications / Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application:

  • Be enrolled in the final year of a first university degree programme (Bachelor’s or equivalent)
  • Be enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. programme
  • Have recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. programme

Additional requirements:

  • No prior professional experience is required
  • Field of study must be closely related to the type of internship
  • Applicants must indicate which eligibility criteria they meet and provide supporting documentation
  • An official certificate may be required at a later stage

Languages

  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required
  • Fluency in Arabic is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (French, Spanish, Russian, or Chinese) is an advantage

  • Interns are responsible for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses
