The successful candidate will allocate approximately one-third of their time to their own research, with the remaining two-thirds dedicated to research in the Inclusion Economics portfolio. This includes work to quantify, assess, and address gender gaps in participation in economics through IEIC’s new Women in Leadership in Economics (WiL) initiative.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to advance ongoing research while gaining first-hand experience conducting policy-relevant economics research and building research networks in India and globally. The selected candidate will report to IEIC’s Director of Strategic Initiatives and receive mentoring and opportunities to collaborate with economists affiliated with Inclusion Economics at Yale.

    • Leading analysis

  • Oversee and mentor the India-based research team working on the WiL initiative

  • Manage and supervise technical aspects of at least one additional research study in collaboration with IEIC research teams and co-Principal Investigators

  • Oversee India-based research teams to design and implement studies focused on pressing economic and policy-linked challenges

    • Fundraising and grant reporting support

    • Contributions to academic papers and related outputs

Note: Candidates progressing beyond initial screening will review the WiL in Economics strategy and engage with senior leadership to understand proposed initiative workstreams.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in economics, public policy, political science, applied economics, or a related field by mid-2025, ideally with a focus on gender economics

  • Interest in developing and testing innovative solutions to improve women’s economic opportunities and address gender gaps in economics and public policy

  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and propose timely solutions with minimal supervision

  • Excellent attention to detail and organized work style in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing environments

  • Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to interact with a wide range of stakeholders

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Hindi
