Partnership for Australia-Indonesia Research
As part of UQ’s global and Indonesian engagement strategy, we are partnering with the Australia-Indonesia Centre, which is supported by both governments. The flagship program of the AIC is the Partnership for Australia-Indonesia Research (PAIR) which will run from 2019 to 2022. A consortium of 11 universities will collaborate to conduct place-based, demand-driven and inter-disciplinary research to examine and improve development outcomes in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The key research domains include commodities, transport, young people and health.
School of Agriculture and Food Sciences
In the PAIR program, UQ has a lead role in the domain of agricultural commodities, value chains and agricultural innovation. The School of Agriculture and Food Sciences (SAFS) is part of the Faculty of Science and contributes to UQ’s standing as a global top 20 university for agricultural sciences and Australia’s leading agriculture institution. SAFS comprises of research and teaching experts in: agribusiness and rural development; animal, equine and wildlife science; plant and soil sciences; and food science and technology. In the commodities domain of PAIR, UQ will partner with Bogor Agricultural University and other universities in Indonesia and Australia.
About This Opportunity
The newly-created appointment provides opportunity for innovative and applied research within a team of world class institutions and researchers. As a research-only academic, you will focus on understanding and improving agricultural production and value chains in South Sulawesi and the livelihoods of the people involved. This research area will be embedded and integrated within the broader development environment of South Sulawesi and other research areas of PAIR.
The role will also involve significant engagement activities within and outside UQ, and the development of leadership skills and professional linkages. Opportunities will be provided to advise post-graduate students and conduct service activities at UQ.
The appointment will be made within the School of Agriculture and Food Sciences and be supported by and report to the UQ PAIR Senior Fellow.
Our Ideal Candidate
You will hold a PhD in the disciplines of economics, business or development applied to address local-level agricultural problems. You will have a passion for improving livelihoods in developing countries and enjoy fieldwork in rural areas. Excellent analytical and writing skills are required, and the successful applicant will be a team player able to work in a collegiate international and multi-disciplinary team.

What We Can Offer
This is a full-time, fixed term position at Research Academic level A or B for three years. The level of appointment will depend on qualifications against criteria.
For Level A, the full-time equivalent (FTE) base salary will be in the range of of AUD$84,878 - $90,982, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range AUD$99,308 - $106,449.
For Level B, the FTE base salary will be in the range AUD$95,771 - $113,728, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range AUD$112,052 - $133,061.

Our Selection Process
