Practice Area (Paid) Internship – Monitoring, Evaluation & Research

Purpose of Position

To support the Monitoring, Evaluation and Research (MER) Practice Area through providing business development, technical research assistance and administrative tasks.

The purpose of the internship is to use the skills and knowledge acquired in a practical way, preparing the intern for his / her integration in the employment market.

Primary responsibilities:

Your primary responsibilities involve support in the following practice area functions: Business Development, Technical M&E research inputs and administrative tasks. In particular you will be expected to:

Business Development:

  • Ensure compliance of GRM BD processes and client requirements;
  • Support BD-related research on topics, countries, clients, partners and competitors and market intelligence gathering;
  • Participate in relevant networking events;
  • Maintain the currency and accuracy of new business data in corporate databases (e.g.: SharePoint, NEMO);
  • Draft capability statements and experience statements;
  • Maintain updated records of past and current offerings and organisational strengths;
  • Support execution of capture strategy;
  • Ensure adherence to corporate pricing strategy;
  • Support partner and teaming agreements;
  • Ensure we are optimally positioned to win a specific new business opportunity;
  • Assist with writing proposals;
  • Support drafting management approaches, personnel, and corporate experience sections;
  • Support contractual requirement compliance;
  • Support pre-mobilisation logistics for contracts.

Monitoring & Evaluation research inputs:

  • Support conceptualisation, implementation and publication of technical work, including research studies and evaluations;
  • Support conceptualisation and implementation of rigorous M&E systems: theories of change, Logframe measurement, operational research and contextual analysis;
  • Maintain internal lists of consultants and partners who can provide technical expertise;
  • Work with the Practice Area Leader to promote and build GRM’s technical capability.

Administrative tasks:

  • Support management of work, subcontractors and small projects within time, budgets and quality;
  • Support the planning, implementation and delivery of projects;
  • Support project work planning, budgeting, progress and financial reporting;
  • Maintain records on political, social, economic and security developments in project countries and regions;
  • Maintain updated register of corporate risks with Operations Group;
  • Support the identification of project performance and contract issues.

Reporting requirements

The role will report directly to the Practice Area Leader with the following reporting requirements:

  • Attendance of all team and business unit meetings as required;
  • Regular updates with your line manager;
  • Inputs into the Business unit’s Quarterly reports as required;
  • Any other reporting request as requested by your line manager.

Relationships

  • The role will form part of the EMEA Business Unit;
  • The role will be required to liaise closely with Team Leaders, Senior Managers, other employees, Professional Service Providers and Donor Agencies.

Minimum education and experience required:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field;
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience.

Key competencies and professional expertise required:

  • Some experience in working in a developing country or in a project based environment is an advantage;
  • Experience in business development an advantage;
  • Project Management experience an advantage;
  • Member of professional societies, committees, workgroups is an advantage;
  • Familiar with key methodological areas;
  • Capable in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Supports innovative solution design and problem solving;
  • Good IT, numeracy, literacy, typing, Internet search skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills for research, communicating with clients, partners, other consultants;
  • Works well with other associates;
  • Actively helps to shape a collaborative and positive work environment;
  • Work autonomously and as a team as required ;
  • Willingness to travel and work abroad as needed;
  • Language skills an advantage.
