Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Global Program on Documenting the Integration of Mental Health into General Health Care will document the adaptation and utilization of WHO Mental Health Gap Action Programme Intervention Guidelines (mhGAP-IG) in three humanitarian settings (South Sudan, Central African Republic (CAR), and Philippines), in which mhGAP training is already being implemented through ongoing International Medical Corps programming. A report with steps taken and illustrative examples from all intervention countries with qualitative and quantitative data and lessons learned as well as a document on mental health PHC integration using the mhGAP-IG in humanitarian settings will be shared at the national and global levels.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

•To assume primary responsibility of coordinating and implementing a global project focusing on the evaluation and documentation of the integration of mental health into general health care using mental health (mhGAP) Intervention Guidelines in three humanitarian settings (South Sudan, CAR, Philippines);
•Work under the supervision of the Global MHPSS Technical Advisor in developing all project related tools, methods, analyses and reports;
•Closely coordinate and communicate with IMC country teams (South Sudan, Central African Republic (CAR), and Philippines) and relevant regional and technical staff at IMC headquarters;
•Work with IMC country teams to ensure proper understanding of the evaluation process, project timeline and tools, their timely and efficient implementation and overall understanding of activities, project objectives and outcomes;
•Ensure all relevant data is collected at the field level by providing remote and on-site support and oversight;
•Assume primary responsibility for designing databases, data entry and data analyses involving both qualitative and quantitative data;
•Ensure that all data collection complies with ethical guidelines and principles at global and national levels ;
•Ensure compliance with IMC internal regulations and global guidelines the project tools, work plan and spending plan;
•Produce high quality and comprehensive reports and presentations detailing steps taken, illustrative examples and data collected from all intervention countries and synthesize common themes and lessons learned under the oversight of IMC Technical Unit;
Reports and presentations should demonstrate results and lessons learned from this project to inform governments and other national stakeholders as well as international organizations and agencies about important aspects and steps of integrated mental health programming in order to contribute to increased awareness and use of mhGAP for integrated mental health programming in inform their response to acute as well as chronic humanitarian emergencies in different contexts including urban and camp settings;
•Support publication of project results via media outlets and peer reviewed journals;
•Conduct regular visits to the project sites to coordinate research and to direct, monitor and oversee activities in the field;
•Perform any other project related tasks identified by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

•Relevant educational background (e.g. Master Degree or PhD in social work, psychology or public health, or medical degree with psychiatry specialization);
•At least one year experience in working in a humanitarian setting with an international NGO, research institution or UN agency;
•Experience in carrying out research in low income or humanitarian settings including data collection, data analysis and reporting;
•Experience in managing local research teams;
•Familiarity with global MHPSS guidelines (e.g. IASC, WHO) and ethical research and evaluation guidelines;
•Strong computer and database development and analysis skills using excel, statistical analyses software (e.g. SPSS) and qualitative data analysis methods ;
•Strong analytical and organizational skills;
•Excellent spoken and written English and ability to write high quality research documents and reports;
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
•Proven leadership, problem solving and conflict management skills;
•Proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary team;
•Ability to travel to and spend considerable time at field sites (up to 75% travel).
