Job Description

This is a management position that requires specialized knowledge of academic exchange implementation and sponsored student programming. The Program Manager will be the first line of contact with the donor, and regularly keep the Associate Vice President (AVP) informed of policy-level issues and other key developments related to program implementation, staff management, and budgets. This position requires excellent supervisory, interpersonal, and cross-cultural skills.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Oversee the administration and implementation of the Global Undergraduate Exchange (Global UGRAD) Program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: donor relations, award compliance, program marketing and promotion, application development, negotiation of cost waivers, student placement, university relations and admissions, and monitoring and evaluation.

• Oversee development, deployment, and maintenance of a program management platform that houses student applications, host institution applications, and student data with strong focus on safeguarding personally identifiable information.

• Oversee the program team’s systems and standards for engaging with Global UGRAD students, host institutions, and embassies and Fulbright commissions.

• Supervise program staff with a goal of strong morale, high performance.

• Foster a culture of innovation, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.

• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with college and university partners.

• Provide daily oversight of program operations and determine key issues for AVP’s attention and action.

• Liaise closely with donor to ensure program is implemented consistent with expectations and standards.

• Oversee implementation of a strong and consistent student monitoring program that focuses on students’ well-being and success.

• Support implementation of virtual English language training program, as appropriate.

• Ensure all required program components are implemented and tracked.

• Manage the preparation and timely submission of high-quality reports to donor, ensuring that reports capture successes, lessons learned, and incorporate relevant data points.

• Track and monitor all program costs, working closely with Finance staff to ensure that budgets remain on track.

• Oversee an inclusive communications strategy, including social media and the production of the Global Gazette newsletter.

• Manage the planning and implementation of experiential and inclusive in-person and virtual program activities, including pre-departure programming, the Online Professional and Academic Learning course, workshops, and alumni activities.

• Contribute to an organizational culture of continuous learning through rigorous program monitoring, data tracking, donor and MERL reporting, research and reflection to ensure strong outcomes.

• Contribute to organization’s business development targets through ongoing program implementation, funder relationship building, and through other means as directed.

• Play a key role in developing and writing proposals for Global UGRAD and other academic exchange programs, working with the AVP and BDU staff.

• Demonstrate a curiosity about World Learning as a whole, with the aim of being able to effectively represent the organization to external audiences commensurate with the position.

• Foster diverse, equitable and inclusive practices in program implementation and monitoring and challenge practices which may be exclusionary.

• Other duties and assignments as required.

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree plus five years of related work experience or a Bachelor’s degree and seven years of related work experience.

• Significant management and supervisory experience. Experience managing remote staff is desired.

• Experience managing USG-funded projects to a high standard, including a strong focus on compliance, quality, outcomes, and positive donor relations.

• Knowledge of USG policies on higher education exchange.

• Thorough knowledge of the US higher education community.

• Strong cross-cultural and communications skills.

• Excellent organizational ability.

• Proficiency in existing and emerging software.

• SEVIS and visa experience desirable.
