  • Summary Description:

The new Program Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Ford Foundation’s International Initiative to Strengthen Philanthropy (IISP), a $100 million effort designed to strengthen indigenous grant-making foundations across the world, with a particular focus on social justice. The IISP is a cross-program initiative of the Foundation situated in the Peace and Social Justice Program, where the Program Manager is directly supervised by the Director of the Governance and Civil Society Unit. This position is constituted as a fixed-term contract of three years duration.

The new Program Manager will be required to oversee the process of endowment and endowment-type grant-making to IISP participants in close collaboration with Responsible Program Officers and Representatives in the countries concerned; manage the programmatic and logistical aspects of learning events, workshops, and conferences; design and implement a broader learning agenda that could benefit the broader field of philanthropy worldwide; serve as an internal and external liaison and resource person on international philanthropy; and manage IISP staff and budgets.

In addition to these tasks within the IISP itself, the new Program Manager will be expected to support the Foundation’s Philanthropy Learning Group (which draws together all staff working on philanthropy in each Program or Office), and to provide support to learning and communications activities concerning the Ford Foundation’s work in philanthropy generally. The Program Manager supervises a dedicated Research Associate and an Administrative Assistant who work full time in support of these responsibilities.

  • Qualifications: * An advanced degree or commensurate experience relevant to the Foundation’s interests; demonstrated interest in the mission and goals of the Foundation; working knowledge of international philanthropy and of grant-making at the Foundation or other philanthropic organizations; excellent project management skills, including the ability to communicate and work collaboratively with staff and grantees in a networked structure; the ability to manage multiple tasks and develop innovative approaches to learning; excellent writing skills; and experience in financial analysis, including the ability to review and analyze endowment proposals, are all required for this position.. Experience in organizing international events, working with groups of individuals with diverse perspectives and functions, an understanding of institutional development needs, and a commitment to human rights and social justice, are preferred.
  • Location: * New York, USA.
  • Salary: * Salary is based on experience and on the Foundation’s commitment to internal equity. A generous benefits package is provided. This position is comparable to a Program Officer position and is graded accordingly.
